Shows rate distribution for all hires made on oDesk for hourly jobs only, for providers that have completed a minimum of 1000 hours, over all time.
Shows all currently registered providers grouped by listed hourly rate.

I totally agree with you. I quickly learnt to pick and choose and to leave the blogging and article writing to the Indians and Filipinos. I think the standard accepted by the buyers of these products reflect the fact they can't put 500 words together worth reading themselves, or else they'd save the half a buck budget.
I can see the appeal to buyers, particularly for work that is not so dependant on good English, such as graphics and web design/programming. I think with any freelance business you need to source work from more than just the one marketplace. oDesk is a relatively new concept and while it has its merits, the www also allows competition from third world countries. I just accept the status quo as I can't stem the tide. We need to realize that I think the 21st Century will see big changes in who is 1st world and who is 3rd. A lot of that will be due to ideas created in the current 1st world that are exploited by others. SO be it. that is progress.
The secret is to find your niche, dominate it and go along for the ride.
