I just want a fair rate

You're criticizing me for being American? Ugh.... If something I say is wrong, then correct me, don't give a meaningless criticism. And anyway, I think you completely misunderstood my complaint:

If 10% was a tax, meaning it was used to benefit society as a whole, or to benefit providers and buyers as a whole, then I would be ok with it. The problem is that to my understanding, the fees that big companies (ebay, amazon, odesk, etc) put on our sales is making them super rich, while us little people who are actually doing the work or selling the products are getting portions of our pay taken away which we need to stay afloat.

No, I don't need to use Odesk. Well, I was going to go into an argument about that, but that's not quite appropriate here. I'm just stating a complaint about Odesk, in hopes that some people will agree and maybe Odesk will consider changing their policies for providers/buyers who have already paid a lot to Odesk.

Consider, if I make $20,000 a year on Odesk, I am paying them $2000 to use their service. That's a lot... I am thankful to get the $20,000, but I do not think this website is worth $2000. yes, I continue to pay it because I haven't yet transitioned into a better way to make and keep my money, but I hate paying it, and I think the price a bit unreasonable. I'm not saying Odesk is the most unreasonable, but just because other companies are worse doesn't mean that Odesk is good.

Lately, I've been getting into Etsy, an online store for handmade items. They are very successful, but only charge a $0.20 listing fee, and 2.5% of the sale. Extremely low compared to any of the other sites I've mentioned, but I'm sure the creators of Etsy are doing pretty well for themselves. I just wish these other sites could move more in that direction. A low rate to benefit the providers and buyers, but still enough profit to keep the Odesk people happy with their success.
