Unsuccessful Download/Upgrade to oDesk Pack

Hearing about the new oDesk pack is great! But I have problems downloading the new installer.

I have tried it two ways, but with no success:

  • upgrade existing oDesk Team, logging in.. then following the download instructions
  • removing existing oDesk Team and Share, then installing the new oDesk Pack setup file, following the instructions

Even if I leave all the internet to download these new setup files, it seems I am not able to complete a download (done it more than three times).

Could you provide alternative  link? I do well with download managers (that resumes a download even if it is interrupted).

Thank you.. I will be having my next hourly job soon and I hope I could get a quick response.

been there, done that, it's still not working, unfortunately. it says that there's an internal error in the odesk prefs. i use windows xp sp2, please please please odesk fix and recompile your software =/

More details please

Could you please describe the sequence of events as detailed as possible?

What did you do? At what moment did you see the error?

regsvr32 ole32.dll

Please try this:

Click 'Start' button, choose 'Run...'

Type 'regsvr32 ole32.dll', press Enter.

(result should be https://url.odesk.com/6sez2)

Click 'OK'.

After this Team should work.

'cannot find regsvr32' i'm

'cannot find regsvr32'

i'm running on windows XP SP2, if that helps. vista solutions for this problem does NOT work for me unfortunately =/

reinstalling doesn't work for me either. after a successful install, it says

'attach failed: error is 0x80040155'

'odesk preferences not found or corrupted'

there's another type of error that i've encountered before during another reinstall and it also had something to do with odesk preferences file. this is really frustrating and so far i have not seen any official reply .from odesk itself about this problem that a lot of us are currently facing

Sorry, but I do not

Sorry, but I do not understand your 'cannot find regsvr32'.

You got such message or something else ?

Please write in details what you are doing and what happens.

hi, yes that's the message i

hi, yes that's the message i got when i went to start->run and i typed your directions.

when i run odesk, this is the error that i get:

CCI failed(2): error is 0x80070002

and

odesk team fatal error: odesk preferences not found or corrupted

reinstall

Please follow my instructions:

1. Completely uninstall oDesk Apps (go to 'Add/Remove Programms' and uninstall all oDesk Apps, run Windows Task manager and look for odesk* processes, if you find any - kill it).

2. Please download https://www.odesk.com/downloads/win/oDeskSetup.exe and run it.

If you still have problems after this - please email to me directly - my email is my username plus '@odesk.com'.

You wrote:'hi, yes that's

You wrote:'hi, yes that's the message i got when i went to start->run and i typed your directions.'

This is very, very strange... regsvr32.exe is one of standard utility of the Windows. It should be placed in ..\Windows\system32\. If you have no this utility - it seems that your Windows is broken...

official reply

amarkov and myself are officially replying to you on behalf of oDesk.

Please describe your problem clearly and in details.

okay so i was able to

okay so i was able to download and install the files successfully, however, when i try to run odesk team, this is what appears:

 CCI failed(2): error is 0x80070005

and

odesk team fatal error: odesk preferences not found or corrupted

then i tried typing regsvr32 ole32.dll again in start -> run, for some reason it worked now, BUT, odesk started upgrading again and this is what i got:

odesk upgrader:

internal error (5)
c:\program files\odesk\odeskcommonprefs.exe
upgrade stopped

after that it just goes back to the cci failed and odesk prefs errors =/

More details please

If you have the same problem, then the same solution should work.

If it does not work, please describe your problem in details.

Ok,thanks, im trying to

Ok,thanks, im trying to download all these files..Am I supposed to extract the zip files to the same folder as exe files? or is that i just download all the files in the same folder without extracting the zip files?

Please download all files

Please download all files (oDeskSetup.exe and necessary to you .zip files) in one folder - than run oDeskSetup.exe

oDeskSetup.exe detects that .zip files already present and does not download it.

i have downloaded all the

i have downloaded all the recommended files in the same folder, but still odesk pack setup isnt working for me..it downloads around 28kbs and then stops downloading in the middle..what should i do now?Sad hey i havnt uninstalled the previous version of odesk team,,,m i supposed to remove that one first,,,and then download the newer version???whats the problem with it...m unable to figure out:(

If you want to install, for

If you want to install, for example, Team and ScreenSnap you need to download oDeskSetup.exe, Prefs.zip, Team.zip and ScreenSnap.zip in one folder.

Than run oDeskSetup.exe. On the page 'oDesk applications' you need to check radio-button 'Custom' and uncheck 'oDesk Share' and 'oDesk MiniCam'. https://url.odesk.com/s7i36

So oDeskSetup will install Team and ScreenSnap only.

Attention: Engineer Amarkov

Hello! I have the same dilemma. I've been downloading the new oDesk pack but always a failure. Whenever I log in using the oDesk team icon, I always get 'cannot establish connection'. I've been getting this result since Friday. Please tell me what else to do.

I followed your advice above. Downloaded everything to a different folder and installed. The icon of the oDesk team appeared and I was able to use it but still : 'cannot establish connection'. What am I doing wrong? Please help me!

If you are using proxy - you

If you are using proxy - you need to open Preferences, choose 'oDesk Preferences -> HTTPS proxy' and setup your proxy here.

Also please open Internet Explorer and type 'https://team.odesk.com/team/client/receiver'.

You should get this 'status=S_INVALID errmsg='User' is not specified cache_size=120 '.

If  after this Team still does not work - please turn on detailed logging. Try to login via Team 2-3 times, turn off logging and send to me file 'oDeskCommon.dll_Team.log'. My e-mail is my username plus '@odesk.com'.

I am not using proxy

I did not use proxy. I used firefox in downloading. I opened Internet Explorer and typed the url and got the indicated result. I logged in via Team 2-3 times, but still failed. I don't know where to get the file 'oDeskCommon.dll_Team.log'. Please have more patience. I don't have enough understanding on technical problems. Thanks for the reply. I hope you'll help me through successful download--and my use of oDesk Team. - Roselyn

1. You need to turn on

1. You need to turn on logging.

    - In Team's tray menu choose 'Preferences'

    - In the tree (on the left) choose 'oDesk Preferences -> Logging'

    - 'Logging level' should be 'Detailed'. Set check in checkbox
'Append to existing log', click button 'Start' (You should see label
'Logging is ON')

2. Try to login via Team 2-3 times.

3. Go to Preferences to 'Logging' page and turn off logging (button 'Stop').

4. Pack logs via button 'Pack logs..'

5. Send logs to me. My e-mail is my username plus '@odesk.com'

I have the same problem...

with the 'can't establish connection". I've turned logging on , tried to connect, turned it off and have packed the logs. could i send them to you, i'd be eternally grateful if you could help me.

thx in advance,

elena.

Yes - please send packed

Yes - please send packed logs to me. My email is my username plus '@odesk.com'.

Also please check this:

- possible you use proxy for access to Internet - in this case you need to setup your proxy in Preferences.

- check settings of your firewall - possible it blocks oDesk Team...

Just Might Help

Hello EVERYONE,

Seems to me that many are having problems with the new pack. Anyway, I have successfully installed oDesk pack---- in a weird way.

Since there are several files to be downloaded manually, I waited for all the downloads to finish. They are contained in one file in my computer.

Then I opened double clicked oDesk setup file. This is where the weird thing happened ---- it just simply re-downloaded all the other ZIP files. I was expecting that the local files were simply there, but it re-downloaded all the ZIP files --- successfully.

Then the installation was a breeze and I logged in successfully to my team.

I don't know, but this might be worth a try for the meantime.

How to install pack succesfully

Just download the odesksetup.exe (see link above), close down odesk if it is running and then run odesksetup.exe. It will download and install the packages you need

no use

I still can't get into Team, i have tried most of the things suggested on this forum and i still get the same error:

CCI failed(1)

Error is  0x80040154

Then after i click 'OK' i get

oDesk Team fatal error

oDesk Preferences not found or corrupted

I would like to use this program to start working, but it doesn't give me a chance, any way you guys can fix this issue? I do not have any old versions of this either, new user so...

Hello, mshodunke! Last March

Hello, mshodunke! Last March 2008, I encountered a problem similar to yours. For about a week then, I tried several ways and techniques on downloading the oDesk Pack, with the patient help from Engr. Amarkov, of course. When we exhausted all ideas, it was only then that he advised me to have my Windows reinstalled because he had a hatch that it might be broken. Why not try reinstalling your own Windows? This is just a friendly suggestion from a fellow oDesk provider... and a warm welcome from me:)

roselyn

well considering i just got my laptop back from Asus repaired with new windows i don't think that is the case..... thanks though...dunno what else i can do really.

Error 0x80040154 means that

Error 0x80040154 means that Preferences did not insert information
about itself in registry. I do not why this happens on your
computer...

Let's try to insert this info by hand.
Please download from http://freedrive.com/folder/152841 file cp.reg.

I suppose that oDesk Apps are installed in folder
'C:\Program Files\oDesk\' on your computer
If not - you need to edit cp.reg - in 2 places you should write proper
paths.

Open Windows Explorer and do double-click on file cp.reg.
Click 'Yes' (aprove insert info into registry).

You should get messagebox that info was successfully inserted into
registry.

Try to run Team.

Error 0x80040154

i have downloaded and managed to run it, using start > run

regedit cp.reg

 unfortunately i get an error

'Cannot import cp.reg: Error opening the file, there may be a disk or file system error'

Also where exactly did you want me to add stuff in the notepad file?

How did you download it

How did you download it ?

You should click on cp.reg, then choose 'Download' ( https://url.odesk.com/i3nog).

If you really can not insert this in registry - this means that your Windows is corrupted... You need to check your Windows for viruses. If this does not help - you need re-install Windows, I think...

still no change

I opened the registry editor, clicked import and selected the cp.reg file and it has added it fine.  I click/launch oDeskTeam and it still does not work.  I downloaded cp.reg the way you said but it saves it as cp.reg.txt, i have added it to the registry but it wouldnt recognise it as a reg file when i was importing it, i had to select 'all files' to be able to see it, and after that it added it to the regitstry with no issue. Still no change though. And since i just got this back from Asus i do not think i need to re-install my windows.  I have only had this issue with your program and nothing else. I have also downloaded simple example registry files and they appear exactly like they should with the registry icon and work as soon as they are double clicked. I believe it might be the file you have given me does not work properly or you have not completely made it a registry file.

Please try this: Please

Please try this:

Please check that in directory '..\WINDOWS\system32\' file 'atl.dll' is present.
If file is not present - tell me - I'll send it to you.

If file 'atl.dll' is present - please click 'Start', choose 'Run...'.
Type here 'regsvr32 atl.dll' and click 'OK'.

You should get messagebox that tells to you that registration is
successful.

Please try to run oDesk Team again.

atl.dll

thank you, the program now works. the file was present, and i typed the command in run and everything went successfully - gosh i wander why it took all this to get it to work... :S anyway thank you so much for your help and patience, i really appreciate it.

I faced the same problem

I faced the same problem and then I registered atl.dll:

 regsvr32 atl.dll

 The oDesk Team works.

Odesk.exe is sticky

I've faced all lot of troubles installing oDesk.exe.I'm a French speaker working with a english version of vista, it takes me many re-downloads to have the square in the O logo within to be well installed.

At last, it works and  the feeling that result is awesome.

Merci beaucoup and have a nice day.Smiley

Hint : Re-download could be usefull.

Uninstalling

I got the same error, and worse.... I can't uninstall the program.  I tried to remove it from "Add and Remove Programs".  But when I click "Remove", nothing happens.  How can I remove the programs, so that I can reinstall?  There are 4 installed: ODesk Minicam, ODesk ScreenSnap, ODesk Share and ODesk Team.  What am I going to do?  Please assist.  Thank you.

You should open 'Control

You should open 'Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs', find here 'oDesk Team', click 'Remove' button.

If this does not work for you (very strange thing...) - please exit all oDesk Applications, go to 'C:\Program Files' (if your OS is installed on drive C:, if not - find drive where your OS is installed and go to this drive in folder 'Program Files'), delete here folder 'oDesk'. Click 'Start' button, go to 'Programs', delete menu item 'oDesk' here.
