Hello Pinoy Newbies at Hindi Newbies!

Welcome to all Pinoy newbies! Post here to introduce yourselves, and get to know more oDeskers... feel at home. Don't be a lone freelancer. Smiley

Yes, this is also a thread for experienced Pinoy oDeskers too...  inspire newbies with your success stories. We all began with no feedback and no stars on our profiles. Why not give something back to new freelancers who need to have a good start!

Let's help each other out. Smiley Bawal po ang crab mentality... hehehe! oDesk gets bigger with more Pinoys around!

Lost newbies.. look here!

Most newbies feel lost.. so I suggest checking these helpful resources first. I got these from oDesk's help files.

I just wrote that down, because at times some experienced freelancers may be busy and may not be able to help you out on starting out (oh no). Smiley

Posting your profile to ask feedback is encouraged. You can post it here or better yet, ask that in a new thread (in English) so that you get more feedback not only from Pinoy providers but from many providers from other countries.

For a start, I'll share mine

I have this thread on Philippine Payment
methods
for you to check out - oDesk debit Mastercard, Paypal,
Moneybookers
and wire transfer works with oDesk. Take your pick. The thread is short so some questions may have been answered; if not then don't hesitate to post it out. Smiley Share your experience with that payment method too.

Not only that.. I hope I'd help you more...

Tips from the forums

From other oDesk freelancers - they had also listed these posts (from the archives, Smiley, feel free to inform me when you have posted a detailed post for newbies a long time ago so that I can update this thread). Some of these freelancers may not be active, but their messages are still useful. (You can mention useful threads left by buyers and freelancers from other countries).

Posting in the community

If you have to post on other thread please post it in English so that the oDesk moderator, oDesk support and other freelancers in other countries can help you out. Let's just leave Taglish/Filipino postings here in this thread and on the other Philippine payment methods thread. After all, oDesk still remains a global community. We're glad to be an active part of it.

Mabuhay po ang oDesk Pinoys!

(Note: kung may problem na specific sa loob ng account ninyo [like cannot hide failed tests, missing parts of the profile, web pages not working, assignment billing problems] it is best to send a help ticket rather than posting dito sa forums dahil kaya pong silipin oDesk support sa account ninyo! Salamat po!)

HI gbaltzar!

Just saw your reply regarding odesk payment!

Question lang.

And about dun sa maximun quota of 5  job application pwede bang mag exceed? Thanks!

If you take at least 5 tests, you have 20 per week po. Try niyo po yung MS Word, MS Excel, Office Skills, Email Etiquette, etc.

Odesk Tools

Hello,

New here, not much of a techie, but know enough to get myself around the net/odesk, I would just like to ask if its necessary to download all the tools to my computer, or pwede yung mga kailangan ko lang muna? Thanks!

oDesk Pack

I think now they all come in one pack po so wala po tayong choice kundi i-download lahat. (When I started, oDesk Team lang po ang ininstall ko.) Besides, automatic po yang naga-update (without asking first and with no option to close the auto-update) so even if isa lang ang i-install mo today, eventually the entire pack will be installed sa pc mo. Hope this helps.

$3 kung wala kang transaction for one month, $1 if meron kang (2 or more daw? - pls verify with payoneer).

Effective yun mastercard, pinang -go-grocery ko yun at mall. Kasi walang charge, tapos online access.

If you have 5 jobs this week, then you can add 5 more next week. Total of 10 candidacies per week, kung wala ka pang interviews.

Gaano katagal bago kayo

Gaano katagal bago kayo nagkameron ng job dito? Mahirap ba talaga pag sa simula? Thanks!

For Me

mtaada wrote:

Gaano katagal bago kayo nagkameron ng job dito? Mahirap ba talaga pag sa simula? Thanks!

Ako nahirapan ako nung una.

Joined: October 2007, applied for some jobs, but I became inactive (I was employed). I got my Payoneer card after a month of joining.

Active ulit ako ng January 2008, I applied to more than a dozen jobs. Got dozens of frustrating job rejections.

So I completed it with all the portfolio details. This took me a day.

Then yung cover letters ko, I followed the tips dito sa oDesk - customize letters per job, answer the questions, make it "speak" to the buyer.

I was nervous when I spoke to the buyer. Di ko rin alam gagawin ko.

Then di kami nag usap agad ni buyer. I followed up. He hired me for two jobs - pero natuloy na lang ang isang job.

When he gave the job to me, I was really excited. Todo-todo work! That was on February 2008.

And then... the rest follows, tuloy-tuloy ang work! :-)

Update: But right now, my issue is on sustaining work. Medyo konti lang ang programming jobs ngayon (chosen interest ko), so I had to find ways. Di tulad nung after first job, sunod-sunod ang interviews at nagkaroon ako ng marami akong buyer-initiated interviews.

Oh.. I see. May nag invite

Oh.. I see.

Go to your next goal then, habulin mo ang buyer!

Fixed fee?

Since first time buyer siya (I understand his fear), we talked about setting a time limit hanggang maabot ko ang bid price ko. Tina-try ko mag work within sa time limit na yun.

Pero, I have fixed price jobs too. And once that you have established trust with a buyer, baka tuloy-tuloy na ang projects mo.

Good luck! Smiley

Baka na overlook: try again by Billing and Payments, then sa left side ng page under Billing and Payments (din) makikita mo ang link na Payment Methods. You should see Payments and Withdrawals tab, pero Payments ang naka-default.

FROM $24 - $6?

Hello! Ask po sana me bout Payoneer, kasi kdarating lng niya last Friday at naintriga akong gamitin to try na rin yung mabilis n processing ng money transfer. Although maliit pa yung earnings ko, wnidraw ko n xa and that's $24. So calculate ko, bale $2 for odesk at $3 for Payoneer. Loaded n nga ang card ko in two hours pero naubos naman ang laman. I was expecting sana to wdraw at least Php800 something for that day pero Php 292 n lng ang nakita kong laman. Paano po kaya nangyari iyon? Please help. Thanks

Yes, there are charges associated with the Payoneer account. Maliit rin nakuha ko the first time around.

I decided not to place the explanation dito sa reply. Mahaba kasi. I hope these can help you:

Most Buyers, Most Jobs

mtaada wrote:

anyway anong categories maraming buyer? and mas madali maka kuha ng jobs?  Thanks!

Here is a good blog to read about: http://www.odeskinsider.com/blog/get-ahead-on-odesk-by-specializing/

Ako po data entry, web research, transcription and general admin work po or Virtual Assistant.

EARNING AND SATISFIED

Hello! Ms. Gem! Sa totoo lng, nahilo ako nung unang tingnan ko pa lang ang Odesk site and I thought only extra genius people lang ang mahi-hire but I was totally wrong. I joined last April and since then, hindi n ako ngopen ng site until June when I received an invitation from Mr. Mark Hughes! Nervously, I accepted the interview and when he replied back, I learned that the task was just easy. Need niya ng 350 questions in Math, Science, English. History and Geog. Imagine how good HE was! I was interviewed and hired with only name visible in my profile; no portfolio, no work history and all that! Ang saya2 ko and from then on, kinareer ko n ang Odesk as in. May time na ngkakasabay work ko at hindi n ako natutulog. Good thing n 6hours n lng ang teaching hours namin waahh!

The bottom line lang kaya share ko ito is to thank you for welcoming me here. Nglgay n ako ng portfolio at nagkaron n ako ng total of 10 assignments here in Odesk mula nung June 18. Sana tuluy2 na ang Odesk.

For me I wag ka entirely venture sa blogging. Pana-panahon kasi.

Blogging is easy. I also learned by writing articles for others (out of oDesk). Unang gagawin mo is to choose the platform. Kung paid blogging I would not use wordpress.com.
