Job offer that was concerning to me

Hello All,  I am new to the (odesk).

Can you please tell me if this sound strange to you all.  I have applied for a Data Entry position.  I was contacted via Odesk Email the other day and was told that they needed my msn or yahoo messenger, as I want to get you to start working really fast.

I am not sure how interviews are conducted once you are offered a positions, I have sent this information in the same day.  The very next day I get a email via Odesk stating that I was not chosen for the position.   Then the next day I noticed that the person was online and I decided to speak with them via messenger and ask if they received my information? (just a test to them).  I was told some concerning information, this job is confidential and I need to have a copy of your passport before we could get started.  I then asked what did the job require me to  and what type of information would be provided to me?  Would this be entered into a spread sheet, well the answer was yes.

Then came the concerning question, did I have a verified PP account.  Here goes,  I need you PP account information so that we could place money into it from our company and you will receive 5% of what is being deposited.  So I then asked this question you just need my account to put money in to do what with it.  I was told just to deposit.  I then asked I thought that this was a position for Data Entry, I was told that the Data Entry portion will come later at a pay rate of $4 hourly.

Please any comments or thoughts about this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanking you all in advance

Do not do any work for this

Do not do any work for this person, and do not send them any account or identifying information.

You were not hired in oDesk, and the person is trying to scam you. From your post I can tell that these requests alarmed you, and you are correct to be concerned. If you still have the information about the job opening, please submit a help ticket to report the buyer's inappropriate behavior as a violation.

Working outside the system is called disintermediation and it is a violation of our terms of service. Please read this article for more information about why it is important to work within the system.
