There is one thread where oDesk users in the Phillipines like to talk amongst themselves (not always in English): http://www.odesk.com/community/node/2935

Just came across and translated...

Translation: I'm a newbie. A provider emailed me for an interview using YM. Is that legal? I mean, is it ok if he directly emailed to me without oDesk knowledge. Is this a scam? Please answer me.

Hi! Most Filipinos that I see here are providers and I think that with your profile (some tests taken and some jobs applied) what you mean here is that a buyer emailed you for an interview using YM (not provider that emailed you, because providers are the freelancers who find jobs here in oDesk).

For the buyer to contact you, he/she should change the status of your job from candidate to interview. From there you can see each others' contact details, which is not available when you were still applying for that job.

I hope you have not provided any email/IM address when you first applied for the job, because you are not supposed to give it. (I did that mistake, I submitted a sample work then the buyer became unresponsive). Besides, it is against the rules here.

I cannot look inside your account, but I'm praying that some oDesk personnel can help you out to verify if your job status has changed.

yeah! I think i've mistakenly gave my email ad to the buyer (not provider... sorry for the wrong term) because that was my first application and i was not aware of the rules before. Thanks for the help!
