Could you add Transcription to the Administrative Support category

Hi,

I get a bit flustered sometimes.  I am focusing mainly on transcription work (and thankfully staying busy with it), but I sometimes don't know of new transcription job posts until I search for them myself using keywords transcribe/transcription.  I found one today (21st) that was posted on the 18th.

I do receive a daily email with administrative support/data entry/other.  Sometimes I get job posts in them for transcription, but other times I don't.  I guess maybe the buyers aren't exactly sure where to categorize that either.

Transcription is a bit more specialized than just VPA/data entry/other.  You need software to enable you to do the work correctly, and in some cases additional hardware.  The buyers I am working with may not be looking for a personal assistant, just someone who is good at transcription.  Could you think about adding to the categories and making "Transcription Services" one of them?  I think it would make it easier for buyers to categorize their job posts better and for providers to find them.

Thanks,

 Tamara

Good suggestion.

Good suggestion. Transcription does appear to be a growing job category.

If others would like to see transcription have it's own category, please post your support here.

Support for Transcription Services to have its own category

Smiley Since I am the original poster, does that mean I still get to show my support ? Smiley

any update on adding transcription as a subcategory?

Hi Jacqui,

I was wondering if there has been a decision made about adding transcription/transcribe as a subcategory under administrative assistance?  Still finding job posts for that late (sometimes a few  days) because I have to manually search for them.  They don't always show up in my email digest.  That's the main focus of my work.

Tamara :)

I think they were hoping to

I think they were hoping to see some more interest before moving forward. So please transcriptionists - post your support here!

how many does it take to add a category?

Hi Jacqui,  I noticed that a new category was added for translation skills.  This seemed to be based on a request by two or three at the most, and oDesk honored that request by adding a new category.

I have asked for transcription to added as a new category under administrative assistance.  There was one other provider that also said it would be a good idea.  My question is why is transcription not being added, when translation has been.  There are transcription job posts all the time (enough that it's most of my assignments), but they are not necessarily found under administrative assistance.  Please reconsider adding.  It would make job opportunities easier to find for the providers and easier to post for the buyers.

Thanks,

Tamara

I checked into this for

I checked into this for you. Translation was on the list or consideration before transcription, so it got added first. Transcription is on the review list for the next round of category updates. For the record, I completely agree that it deserves to be added.

100% agree!

I'm also a professional transcriptionist and have often wished there was a category for this because, just like you said, it's not  simple data entry nor is it copywriting, doesn't really fall into admin services or VA either.

I agree that have a "transcription" category would not only help out the providers, but also the buyers looking for this specifically.
