First time to apply to job
I have found a job that I would like to apply for. It is my first time. The person has asked for several things, including a resume and portfolio, etc. Isn't that what I put together on oDesk already? I thought the only thing I would have to write is a cover letter and then email it off.
As for the rest of the process, when I apply, I get added to the list of people who also applied and the Buyer then decides who they want to hire and emails them, is that right?
I just want to make sure that, before I apply, I understand what I do and what the process looks like.
Thank you!
Wendy

Afternoon Wendy!
I'm new here too, but as far as I know everything sounds okay. I'm guessing that the buyer will send you a message through the oDesk Message Center and they'll get the ball rolling from there.
It would be a perfect world if we could all get the projects we wanted but unfortunately were all competing to get the same thing! so everyone who wants the job must be on a list, this makes filling out your credentials and portfolio a critical factor in getting ahead of the rest.
Good luck with oDesk and take care,

Your oDesk profile should contain all the resume and portfolio info the buyer needs. It is usually a good idea to link or attach your most relevant work samples so the buyer doesn't have to go searching for them. You should also highlight some of the most important points from your 'resume' and point the buyer to your profile for more info.
You shouldn't be emailing anything - just use the application form to send your cover letter and bid/rate. If the buyer included an email address for you to send things to, the buyer is violating oDesk policy. And don't send the buyer your contact info either.
As for the process, yes, you'll be added to the list of candidates when you apply. The buyer will then choose some candidates to interview (you'll be notified and contact info will be exchanged at this point). If the buyer hires you, you'll receive another notification from oDesk.
