Upfront Payments
Submitted by jvigliano on Sat, 2008-10-11 15:31. Tips and Best Practices
Can any experienced providers weigh in with the practice of up-front payments, based on experience, not opinion?
Do you ask for them? Why or why not?
If you do, ballpark percentage?
Thanks.

its more of a negative and not a positive in your bid
I usually ask between 10 to 25% upfront for a larger project, that may take some time to do. But generally I've found unless your the one getting invited to the job more than 9 out of 10 times, then its more of a negative and not a positive in your bid.
Now for jobs outside of oDesk, ones that usually are done by contract, its 50% up front payment and then two more 25% payments which is stated within the contract itself. and upfront with the client at the interview. This laster method works great and helps to guarantee paying clientele
