Is it spamming?
Good day to everyone.
I have just finished a job from a certain buyer. The job was to collect contact details from thousands of websites. Now what worries me is that, My husband told me that in doing this kinda job I am participating in spamming. That these people are giving us the job in collecting the contact details especially email address then they use it for spamming. Although I like this buyer cause he really is keeping intouch with me and so easy to approach when I have questions. But, I just wanna ask if is there a rule within oDesk that prohibits the buyer from spamming? Or atleast a way to determine the intentions of the buyer for a certain job? Or oDesk doesnt care at all on whatever the intentions of the buyer? Because if its true that this buyer is a spammer, I would really feel guilty. Has it also crossed your mind everyone? Now im afraid to pick a job like that collecting contact details, but honestly thats the easiest job you can get in oDesk.
Oh Thank you very much
Oh Thank you very much atleast there is an assurance that oDesk will do something for things like that.
While what you were doing
While what you were doing is not spamming, it is possible that the information you collected could be used for spamming. It could also be used for legitimate purposes - there's no way for me to know. Did you ever talk to the buyer about what the info would be used for?
oDesk does not approve of its marketplace being used to create spam and has taken action against spammers. While spam isn't specifically mentioned in the job posting policy - there are prohibitions against malicious and illegal activity.
But oDesk can only act when it knows there's a problem. If you (or anyone) has information on spammers or any other suspicious practices, please report them via a help ticket.
