Time to completion...
I find that the "time to completion" box being a required foeld for applying for a job is totally impossible. I have yet to find a job where there is an adequate enough description for me to provide a time estimate.
"I have some labels" and the budget is $50... what if there are 500 labels?
You should always start...
I also let them know that my bid is tentative provided they can answer the following questions...
...then I ask about the project in detail.
I agree with Danalyn that, you should always notify the buyer that your bid is not yet final, then asked the buyer for more information regarding their assignment.
Unless I'm extremely curious
Unless I'm extremely curious about the job, I usually don't apply to them. But when a buyer invites me to an interview, and there's not enough information to go on, I over-estimate and give them worst-case-scenario prices and timeframes - I also let them know that my bid is tentative provided they can answer the following questions...
...then I ask about the project in detail.
This may not be the best way to handle things, but it's what I always do.
A lot of times I get a detailed response from the buyer and I adjust my bid accordingly. Other times, I get rejected because they don't want to take the time to answer my questions...but it's on jobs like that where I have the most trouble communicating with the buyer, so I'd rather be rejected than spend hours just trying to figure out what they want!
