Why is an assingment suspended and will I get paid
I worked all last week for a buyer who had paid me 50% upfront on an assignment, and paid the rest a few days ago when the assignment (100 articles) was completed. Yesterday I recevied an email from Odesk that a new assignment this same buyer had given me was suspended. My account shows pending for the $370 payment on the old assignment and the $150 50% upfront on the new assignment. Will I get paid or did I work for free for a week?
Thanks, I have submitted a
Thanks, I have submitted a help ticket (yesterday) without any response as of yet from Odesk. I appreciate your time in trying to help me!
It depends on the date...
If you can see a date when the pending payment will become available, then you got paid, but if one or both doesn't have a date when they will become available, that might have been the reason, why the assignment was suspended. I think I experienced this one time before.
Because you say 'upfront
Because you say 'upfront payment' I'm assuming these are both fixed price assignments. Obviously, don't do any more work on the new assignment while it is suspended. And if you choose to end the suspended assignment, it will not affect any pending payments.
Suspended status itself will not affect the payments (on the old or new assignment), but it is possible the buyer was suspended for failure to pay. For example, the payment for the old assignment could have been submitted, but the card was declined or charged back. Since fixed price assignments do not carry the hourly payment guarantee, earnings cannot be released to you until the money is received by oDesk.
If your payment is still pending more than 6 days after it was submitted, there is definitely a problem with the payment method. But even then the situation could still be sorted out with the buyer and the fund released. It depends whether the buyer is actually working with the support team to correct the situation.
Without access to account details, it is impossible for me to say what happened in this case. The suspension may have been a result of something else entirely. If you submit a help ticket, the staff should be able to tell you whether there is a problem with the buyer's payment method. I do hope it turns out well for you.
