Very competitive data entry jobs - how to stand out?
Hello oDesk Community,
I have recently signed up here a week ago, and, aside from an interview invitation which I politely declined due to the work nature (adult site), I have never received any other offer after 1 week of waiting. Could someone here please be kind enough to check my profile and see what is wrong or missing?

I would like my profile to have more impact to prospective buyers.
Please help me. Your feedbacks are appreciated.
Thanks and regards,
Racel
Hi there...
If you search our forums you will see that it is not rare when it takes 1-2 month for a good new provider to get their first job here at oDesk. Especially in the area so competitive as data entry. So first of all, do not lose hope and keep applying.
I, for one will attest to that. it took me 1 and a half mos before landing my 1st data entry job here in oDesk and it took me nearly 5 mos to land my first data entry job on another forum.
Hang tough and you'll land your first job soon.
Good Luck
Lower your rates.
You should also lower your rates since you are still new to oDesk. You can increase it once you get some experience since data entry is a very competitive field.
If you don't want to lower your rates, you should justify it with your cover letter and add relevant samples in your portfolio. Please remember that the average hourly rate for admin support is around $5 kabayan.
Rome Wasn't Built in a Day
Whatever happened to the virtue of Patience? Has it been swallowed by the Internet Age?
God took time to create the Earth. Babies take 9 months before they are born to the world.
Can't anyone wait anymore?
We've become
Unfortunately I agree with you - too many people are looking for instant gratification. We seem to have developed a segment of society that feels they're due something immediately versus putting in the required time to accomplish things. Too bad, apparently they never understood the lesson of the tortoise and the hare. Doreen
I have to disagree...
Although the author seems to be impatient after only a week, I do believe she was asking for help on how to improve her profile, I am not the best guy to give her advise on how she can accomplish that but I won't be criticizing her either.
thanks
Thanks for being able to understand what I intended to say in this forum. I appreciate your comment.

Thank you, everyone, for your feedback on my posting.
I'm afraid I might have projected a disagreeable outlook--but, I am quite disappointed to read comments about my 'lack' of patience. I am not in a rush to do things as I have a full-time job. What I said about having waited for a week was just an additional information.
I was asking for comments regarding my profile--what its strengths or weaknesses are--so I can better position myself and hopefully catch the attention of our buyers (whether it takes a month, 5 months, or so).
Please do not judge others so easily.
Thanks.
Choose your words carefully.
Actually, my first impression of you is that you are an impatient person because of your "having waited for a week" statement.
I know that is not what you are saying based from your perspective but some of the people here think otherwise. Just choose your words or statements carefully if you do not want to be judged easily by other providers and buyers that read the forum(yes, some of them do).
Freelancing is tough from the start but once you get rolling, it's uphill from there.
Personally, I think you've
on Thu, 2008-11-20 06:22.Personally, I think you've got a great start on your profile. So I only have two comments:
Add samples to your portfolio. You've got some great skills and experience listed, but you need something to show the buyer.
Fix the formatting on your work history. I think your list got a little garbled by the wysiwyg editor. That tends to happen when formatting is pasted in from Word. You can try cutting description, pasting the list into a plain text editor (like notepad), then pasting it into the form and using the wysiwyg editor to make it a bulleted list again.
thanks for the feedback
This came in very late, so I do apologize.
Thank you for your feedback. I have started on an assignment last month and still waiting for another one. I also made some updates to my profile, although I still have to figure out how to format my work history.
Hi Racel, welcome to oDesk.
Hi Racel, welcome to oDesk.

Secondly, since you are mainly applying to writing jobs (judging by the latest job openings you have applied to), it may make your case stronger to add youw writing samples to your portfolio. If you have your personal blog - provide a link to it. The samples you add to your porfolio do not have to be something that has already been published elsewhere. You can write up 300-500 word articles specifically for your portfolio.
Also see oDesk Insider Blog written by oDesk providers for oDesk providers - it has a wealth of information on different subjects - from applying to interviewing to working with Buyers.
Good luck!
