How does one get odesk time.

I have done most all the other things needed to get rolling with oDesk and to take advantage of all it's amazing features but I can't figure how I log time so that I have hours oDesk time for buyer's that require a certain number of oDesk hours. I spend a great deal of time applying and learning all about oDesk but still my total oDesk hours is at "0". Why is this? and how might I fix this problem?

Welcome to oDesk! oDesk hours are hours actually worked on hourly assignments, not the amount of time that you spend on oDesk!! This will not change until you are actually hired for an hourly job.
Even if a buyer asks you for hours it can't hurt to apply for the position - make sure however that you point out in your cover letter that while you don't have experience you bring XYZ to the table and they should take a chance on hiring you without oDesk hours because XYZ
