India's offshoring industry took root in low-end IT functions in the early 1990s, and exploded in the late 1990s when massive demand for technical talent was required to solve the Y2K problem. Throughout the 2000s, India's outsourcing industry — both business process outsourcing and IT outsourcing, has grown steadily. India has a large pool of English-speaking and technically-proficient people. As a result of India's offshoring boom, India has seen double-digit wage growth for much of the 2000s. Consequently, Indian's operations and firms are concerned that they are becoming too expensive in comparison with competition from the other offshoring destinations. They are now attempting to branch out and diversify to other high-end work in addition to software and hardware engineering. These jobs include research and development, equity analysis, tax-return processing, radiological analysis, medical transcription, and more.

I can't help wondering that there seems to be very little difference in rates barring data entry. Is there no real difference between a developer & a person who provides administrative support? There are a lot of other examples like these if you observe the rates at which people are doing jobs. The system of quoting rates really takes away the value of your education, knowledge and competence in a fiercely competitive atmosphere.
I believe Odesk should really look at fixing proper rates for each job.
