your feedback on job complete page is broken (user cannot select the different feedback stars). also i have no idea why you force that informaiton. this makes for a very bad user experience. i want to get a job done not do reviews. it should be optional.
also you really need to improve some basic user interface interactions. like sending someone a message. why is it burried under tons of links. it should be the simplest easiest thing to do on odesk. you really need to think hard about that scenario.

An error with the feedback stars is nearly always a caching error with your browser. Please clear your browser cache and try again (or use a different browser).
The reason feedback is required for the ending party is because feedback is vital to our users to create a reputation. I do apologize your browser has caused difficulty with this process - it usually only takes a few moments.
As for sending messages, I'm not sure I understand the difficulty. There's a 'send message' button on every active interviewing candidate in your list, and a link (not buried in a menu) in the team room on every team member. There's even an oDesk Team application beta with direct chat support for your team. How would you suggest we make it simpler? Or perhaps you are referring to sending a message to a user who isn't a candidate or team member?

I apologize for this in advance, if it offends you, as it's not meant for that purpose.
It appears that feedback is used for more than reputation on oDesk;
e.g. a job poster
Do not bid if you go over $0.30 per hour, remember if you're NEW you can build your feedback if you're chosen for this job.
Do you know what type of reputation I read into that?
Someone who is abusing not only the providers for valuable services, but someone who is 'short changing' oDesk and driving away business.
Keep in mind that the job posters who actually pay well are the posters who are the major supporters of this site, not these types of job posters.
Someone will always find a way to abuse one aspect of a system and clearly this is just one type.....by using this very system (feedback) to build a reputation.
I would call it "Feedback Extortion".

Hope the stars issue has been sorted out for you.
i want to get a job done not do reviews
oDesk or not, even a regular employee will expect a feedback for the work done. Isn't a normal thing to happen at workplace.
I believe feedback for a work done should be the next natural course of action as the job status changes from "Work In Progress" to "Complete". Why does giving feedback bother you so much.
No one expects a lengthy, eloquent feedback text. A simple, "Job well done . I am satisfied" would not take much time. Just the stars will record the feedback for provider. This text is optional, but will certainly give your feedback a personal touch. Providers are humans too.
I guess yours is a "Buyer Profile" at oDesk ( some are both buyers and providers). Every feedback counts at a provider's profile, when he / she bids on new projects. Independent Providers not only compete amongst other providers and also against Provider companies. We providers have reason to believe that these little stars that hold the buyers attention a little longer than those without them. And as the star count increases, providers get a prominent position in the buyers list of candidates applied. Please correct me if I am wrong in assuming this.
You are very busy person with no time spare. But, please ponder this thought while sipping a coffee or having a puff & let us know (from a buyer's point of view) if you still feel feedback should be strictly optional.
Thank you,
Best Regards

Would you entirely make your profile private or allow visibility to buyers only ?

Gee what's the big fuss? Leaving feedback takes less than quarter of a minute.
