fees offered
I am curious, and this is not a criticism of the site or the users. Why are the prices for work so low? Do writers actually write articles for $.20 each?
I love to write and don't want to miss this opportunity if I'm missing something.
Thanks,
Sam Costantino

There are lots of previous discussions of this that you might want to read -- it comes up a lot and many of the conversations are interesting.
I've been at oDesk for almost a year now, and here's my perspective on it:
* No, professional writers don't work for 20 cents, at oDesk or anywhere else.
* Yes, there are some people desperate enough to work for very low rates.
* In some countries, the very low rates represent a useful sum of money. I hope that the buyers offering those rates are in those countries. If not, then they should be ashamed of themselves.
There's plenty of work here. Right now, I'm busy enough with private clients that I'm just working for a few long-standing buyers here, but when I've had time, I've found it very easy to get good jobs here at oDesk, at a good rate. I've worked with some wonderful people, and really enjoyed it.
Just ignore the postings that don't apply to you. Good luck!

some people do it for the feedback and to ad to there number of jobs completed. i recently landed to mid size multimedia jobs that will pay very well. however I had free time one day so i wrote to articles for 4 dollars a piece. sure they took some time but The buyer gave me 5 out of 5 stars. I do not live of the writing / data entry assignments but sometime good multimedia/animation/web development jobs get boring and writing an article is pretty quick and fun.

I hope that Odesk will impose a ceiling on every rate that can only bid. For example for data entry the lowest must be $3 and the maximum will be $5 I think that is reasonable for both buyer and provider. I am really dismay on the buyer who asking for the lowest bid will get the project and the new provider who bid for .20 cent just to get the job and not sure that they will receive a good feedback. At least if odesk will only allow a certain amount rate not below $3 more provider will improve their capacity on doing such job.

Not to be unkind, Chris, but -- unless your letter is very different from your usual writing style -- you're not really a 5-star writer, are you? Things like spelling, punctuation, etc. seem to be a challenge for you.
So you've essentially swapped some time for an undeserved feedback rating. Are future buyers going to be deceived, or are you just going to get more $4 article assignments?
