I agree, there is no scary part.
Sometimes it may be boring, or sometimes you can get distracting, but there is no scary part.
If you are scared as a freelancer, you will also be scared in other jobs.

I don't want to play psychic but I believe you are single or you have no dependents. When and if you do, you might reconsider this point of view.

Although the anxiety of where and when to get the next project and paycheck, the rewards of freelancing far outweigh the fear of it.

No Work Stability - as long as you and your buyer are getting along very well,also if you can deliver,working stability is not scary at all..I have a task that I've been working for a year and still going strong today.
No health insurance and other benefits- this is not scary aLso,you can get benefits if you will apply as "self-employed" on your health insurance or whatever..I'm paying all the benefits courtesy of my money I earned from Odesk.
No colleagues to work with - not a big deal for me.
Not earning enough- having great feedback and full of skills will help you earn big,it's not Odesk's fault if you don't earn much.

Hi! I agree to you on that, unlike working in regular employee you get stuck on your monthly fix payment, you will not grow, your hard work will have no reward unlike here at Odesk that you can control on your earnings if you work hard then you hard work will yield a good earnings too, in addition here at Odesk there's no discrimination on ages, races, educational attainments etc as long as you have the competency to do job, you can have the job, unlike here in the Philippines the interviewer in a job fair or job interview will ask your age, educational attainment etc, not to mention also politics, all I can say is there's no scariest here at Odesk the scariest is hunting and landing a job here in the Philippines, I am so thankful that Odesk came to my life, Odesk gives me the opportunity to earn a good earnings, thanks Odesk more power! God bless us all Odesk freelancer keep up the good work

Scariest part is rate war...........! Where all sudden surprises of selecting other provider, although present provider's performance and quality is good, which can lead to kill the confidence and stability of freelancer's faith and sincerity towards freelancing.
{Good Performance}:)@$$$$+++++++++++++++@$$-------------->:( {Loosing Faith and confidence}

Yeah i guess this is the scariest part in freelancing is the rate It's really alarming now a dayw, I hope other member would not bid on such a lower rate like .50/hour. I think the most is 1/hour but lower than that is suicide. If you observe the more people accept low rate the more buyer ask for much lower rate. lol

Although freelancing has not YET become my full-time income, I can say that I have come to depend on my freelance jobs for monthly spending cash. If I had to depend on this to pay all my bills, that would be scary! But, then again, I have only been at if for a short time.

I'm new to this and haven't found it scary, though it's not my main income. I'd like to think that once I've done some more work and built up a reputation, I would be able to rely on it a bit more. The only thing I have found uncomfortable rather than scary is an online interview and test I was asked to do on MSN this evening (see my post in the Coffee Break forum and steer clear of this guy). As the saying goes "You live and learn".

I'm just curious where it would take me after selecting "Other(please comment)" option and clicking the "Vote" button. Now I know.
The scariest part is not providing the best service as expected of you by the client that could result to a series of unfortunate events.
Unpaid service is equally scary too.
