Feedback on Upcoming Account Dashboard

Hi Everyone,

We're working on an account dashboard that would appear immediately after a user logged into oDesk.com, the goal of the dashboard would be to highlight what's going on in your account and to help guide you to get more done managing their accounts. We would really appreciate your feedback on what we have so far (look at the attached images), so please let us know what you think.

For Providers:
* What kind of access to your current candidacies is helpful?
* What's missing?
* When would you use a dashboard?

For Buyers:
* What elements would you find most helpful in a dashboard?
* What's missing?
* What would you want to do with the dashboard?

Thanks,
Duncan

Looking good

Hi Duncan,

it looks like you're on the right track with this new dashboard. I would like to make a few suggestions for active user (provider) dashboard, though.

  • Have all items in "Job seeking" section be expandable via + icon on the left
    • Under "Active Assignments" show hours logged for that project in current week. Clicking on a project name takes you to work diary for that project
    • Under "Invites to Interview" show just a list of project names, and clicking on a project name takes you to a page where you can accept/decline the invite
    • Under "Active Candidacies" show a list of active candidacies and clicking on it takes you to the details page for that project opening
  • Add "Financial" section, like for buyers, with following information
    • Balance
    • Pending Credit with due date
    • Last withdrawal amount, date and method

That would make the dashboard really useful for me as all information I go to odesk.com 90% of the time is either immediately available or just a click away.

Extra brownie points if expanded/collapsed state of "Job seeking" items is persisted between visits.

Hopefully other providers will also pitch in with their suggestions and ideas, and we'll see that new dashboard on odesk.com soon. Smile

Thanks for including us in the process.

Hi nnc,

(I'm working on the dashboard design with Duncan)

Many thanks for your feedback...

Regarding your specific suggestions for making items in the Job Seeking section expandable --

We are not attempting to duplicate the Candidacies page on the dashboard. Rather, we want to notify you when there is new activity, so that you can drill down from the dashboard to the Candidacies page. (You could say that your suggestion to expand the list in place is similar to our plan to simply link to the candidacies page.)

Regarding your suggestion for a Financials module -- Yes, that is planned. We would show Balance and Pending Credit with due date, and link to your financial activity page. You suggested showing the last withdrawal. How important is that to you and why?

Again, thanks for your suggestions, and keep 'em coming!

Larry

Hi Larry, re job seeking

Hi Larry,

re job seeking section, I agree it is similar. What I proposed was a bit more handy, without necessarily cluttering the interface. But yeah, what you have now is most likely good enough most of the time for most people.

Re the last withdrawal in Financials module, that is mostly to be able to keep an eye on withdrawals to catch any unauthorized withdrawals in case account is somehow compromised. I know email notification is sent for this, but I guess it wouldn't hurt to have it there as well in case email notification is missed somehow. Its not as critical as other two types of information in this module. More of a nice to have feature I guess.

Thanks and keep on the good work.

Hi Nemanja, Your reasoning on

Hi Nemanja,

Your reasoning on why you'd like to see the last withdrawal makes sense. We'll consider it.

Please feel free to add any other thoughts that come up.

And thanks for using oDesk!

Larry

Email notification

To add to what Nemanja has already said, once the account has been compromised, the email in the compromised account would also be changed while making a withdrawal (then of course back to the original email address), so that the account holder would never actually know, if the account is compromised.

WOW! It looks cool

It looks great.
Waiting to it up, The current dashboard is so boring... Sad

Hi Muralio -- Which dashboard

Hi Muralio --

Which dashboard are you referring to as "current?" We don't have one yet!

Thanks,

Larry

Hi Duncan, just bringing this

Hi Duncan, just bringing this in from a user on Twitter:

Looks good - would be nice to see a quick total of hours worked/amount billed for the current and last weeks.

Buyer dashboard for at least small team if not also big team

It would be good to see a summary of hours and amount billed for the current day and week so far for the team. Next to each team member also show the summary of hours and amount billed for the day.

Also, a link to the current day work diary for each team member would be awesome. It's all about quick access to what we use the most.

You mean something like we now have on the Assignment Detail page, but for the entire team?

Good idea. One thing to note is that we have also considered adding more of this kind of aggregate information to the Team Room itself.

One click would get you to the total for the *week* with our current design -- click on a user to see their assignment detail page. That page (see screenshot above) shows this information. But we'll consider a) adding it to the dashboard so that you can avoid the extra click and b) perhaps showing daily summary as well as weekly on the assignment detail page.

Yes, similarly to what I wrote above, one click would get you to the assignment detail. Another would link to the work diary. But I see your point.

Thanks!
