Contact Email Database Building from Web Scraping
Data Scraping Brief
The Children’s Homes Association (CHA) is the membership body for children’s homes in England and Wales. Our membership is diverse and includes Public, Private and Charitable organisations. Some organisations just operate a single home, others operate multiple homes.
Task 1
We currently have approximately 60% of the children's homes in England and Wales who are members. We recognise the significant role that the non-member organizations can play in our marketing campaign. To inform this campaign, we need a database building with contact details scrapped from the web.
All organisations operating children’s homes must be registered with the regulatory body ‘Ofsted’. We have an Ofsted database of all the registered organisations, but this has very limited information.
The steps required are:
1. Crosscheck the Ofsted and CHA databases to identify which organisations are not members.
2. Source contact details from the web for the non members (approximately 650). We require:
a. Company and Director details from Companies House:
b. Telephone number
c. Email addresses for Directors
d. LinkedIn profiles if they exist
Task 2
England and Wales are divided into approximately 170 local authorities (municipalities) and each local authority has key positions that we would like to build a database of email addresses for. This is straightforward as all email addresses are listed on websites. The emails we want are:
1. ‘Director of Children’s Services’ (DCS). All are listed on this web page: (link removed)
2. ‘Cabinet Member for Children’s Services’ (an elected councillor). This will require checking each local authority website, probably with a google search. Here is an example: (link removed)
Task 3
Each children’s home (approximately 3100) in England has two key roles: The ‘Registered Manager’ and the ‘Responsible individual’. We want to build a database of these people. Their names can be found on the latest Ofsted inspection report. A link to the web page with the report is in the Core Database we will develop in Task 1. We then want to have an email for them, and if there exists a LinkedIn.
Task 4
We will undertake the same exercise for Wales which is smaller with 22 local authorities and 277 children’s homes
