Providers get the rate they advertise and Buyers pay 10% more than this. There is no deduction from Providers' advertised rate.

The job application quota

The job application quota only counts Active Candidacies. And each time you submit an application, it only counts towards your quota for 7 days (no matter how long the candidacy remains active). Please see the help page for more info. Post back if you have additional questions.

The links given above have

The links given above have the correct explanation (http://www.odesk.com/help/help/new_to_odesk/fee).

But it really boils down to one thing - the fee is always 10% of the total amount paid by the buyer. It doesn't matter if an hourly, fixed price, upfront, or bonus payment.

Buyer pays $100, the provider gets $90
Buyer pays $10, the provider gets $9
Buyer pays $1, the provider gets $0.90

In every case, the fee is paid totally by the buyer.

When a provider bids on a job, they bid based on the amount they want to earn. Then the form calculates the fee and displays the total. Some providers do lower their bids to compensate for the fee in order to match the buyer's budget, so I'm sure they would argue that they are eating the fee. But those providers are really just choosing to give a discount.

Unfortunately, users can get confused confused about rates if the provider talks about earning $10/hr and the buyer is talking about paying $10/hr. Since fees come out of buyer payments, those are not the same thing.

I agree

We have had such bad luck with Providers from similar services to oDesk that we are scared to deal with anyone who suggests we work outside of oDesk. Clearly they have something to hide. In fact our standard agreement is worded now that we will only pay via oDesk. I guess Providers should have the common sense to make sure their rate includes the oDesk fee.

A question for oDesk:
Since your guy Paulo got it wrong, does oDesk deduct a fee from both the Buyer and the Provider?

Usually, that message means

Usually, that message means we can't allow registrations from your country. Certain countries are currently on the list of OFAC sanctioned countries imposed by the US Department of Treasury. Unfortunately, applicants located in these particular countries cannot be accepted into the oDesk network at this time.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Such providers should be

Such providers should be banned of oDesk, since they don't even bother to read and understand what for are these 2 weeks periods.

If i were buyer - i would think twice before working with person, who ask for uncontrollable payment via PayPal, therefore adding a significant risk factor of having either scammed for money, either having no way to use payment related details when participating in arbitrage if there were a problems with project flow.

Advise to buyers: report such offers of direct payment immediately as violation. Let's make oDesk better without slim-shady-type-providers.

You're trying to find the provider again in My Favorite Providers, right? Please note that new favorites are always added to the bottom of your list.

Favorite providers are saved to your user - so you must be logged in when you save and retrieve them. If you were logged in but still can't save or retrieve them, please submit a help ticket so someone can check your account.

ssukhotinsky is correct

ssukhotinsky wrote:

From US$11.00 a provider will get US$9.90, not US$10, if I am not mistaken.

ssukhotinsky is correct. I'm sorry I didn't catch that when I read it before.

The fee is always 10% of the buyer's payment, not 10% of the provider's rate. For the provider to be paid $10/hr, the buyer would be charged $11.11/hr.

I'll make sure someone talks to the support team about that.

Lack of Understanding?

It's because the person who posted the job didn't read the rules and thinks this is a place to advertise to get a job. And the persons who applied are just shot-gunning applications, not reading the listing.

I report any I find as inappropriate.

You not right. Provider set rate 10, odesk get 10% of it, so buyer will be charged for 10 + 1(10%) = 11. Not in back order 11 - 1.1 = 9.9.
