After Making a Hire
After clicking the Hire button in your candidate list, you will be presented with the option to leave the job open. Keeping your job open will hire the current candidate and leave the other candidates as active possibilities should you choose to hire a second candidate. If you choose not to keep the job open, the other candidates are informed and they are removed from your candidate list. Unless you are planning to hire additional candidates, it is best to close the job during the hire process.
The hired provider will be automatically added to your oDesk team room upon the selected start date of your job. Your provider will receive an email notification that he or she has been hired, and you may contact the provider and begin assigning tasks as soon as you are ready. Buyers who are successful in the network follow the best practices below:
- Clearly outline the assignment specifications and work to be done.
- Set frequent milestones throughout the course of the project.
- Communicate with their providers daily until the project is complete.
- Utilize weekly limits to ensure your project stays within budget.
We recommend looking at oDesk's optional suite of management tools to see if they could help you manage the providers you've selected. Take a look at the Video Tutorials to learn more.
The provider you've hired to your job is asked to record all of their work hours using oDesk Team, which records screenshots, activity logs, and work memos for every active 10 minute period of time. You can review all of this work with the Work Diary.
The Work Diary feature in the oDesk Team is a great way to manage your provider. Some quick tips to better supervise your providers using the Work diary are:
- Use it frequently in the beginning of a project to build up trust about appropriate time-logging.
- Use it to spot-check code on an ongoing project to make sure it was up to coding standards.
- Use it to reach out to providers that were struggling on certain topics.
