Feedback FAQ


What is oDesk feedback comprised of?

oDesk Feedback is made up of ratings and comments left by oDesk members whom you have worked with. The ratings component includes a 1-5 star ranking in 6 different categories, including skills, quality, availability, deadlines, communication, and cooperation.

Feedback in oDesk is symmetrical. Buyers can rank and leave feedback for providers and providers can do the same for buyers.


How is my feedback score calculated?

Feedback scores are weighted by category and dollar value. Learn more about how your score is calculated by visiting this help page.


I just received feedback from my buyer but I don't see it on my profile?

oDesk buyers and providers have 14 days also called the "Review period" after an assignment has ended to provide feedback. All feedback will become visible in the search results and profiles when it meets both of the following criteria:

  1. Both parties submit feedback OR one party submits feedback and 14 days have passed
  2. The assignment was more than zero dollars (except the buyer on a fixed price assignment)

Where is my feedback displayed?

You may view providers' feedback in the Work History & Feedback section of their profile. You may view buyers' feedback in Assignment History section of their job posting. Overall feedback scores are visible in both provider and job search results.

To encourage both parties to leave feedback on every assignment, we display both provider and buyer feedbacks, side-by-side, in the provider profiles and buyer facts. This also gives the feedback scores and comments more context. Please note that to save space, provider company profiles only include the feedback left for the provider.


Where can I review the feedback for my past assignments?

Members can review the feedback from their past assignments by going to My oDesk -> Get Hired (for providers) or Hire (for buyers) -> My Assignments. Use the Assignment status filter to list the ended assignments, and click the links in the Actions column.

Only assignments completed after April 1, 2006 will have feedback.


Can my feedback be made private?

Feedback is given in two parts: Feedback Score and Comments. Feedback scores will always be publicly visible (if the assignment was more than zero dollars). However, the comments may be made public or private. By default, the comments ARE made public. If you feel the need to make the comments private, you can follow these directions for hiding comments.

Please note that only the feedback recipient can hide a comment - even though we show both provider and buyer feedbacks, side-by-side, in the provider profiles and buyer facts.


Can I dispute the feedback I have received?

In the majority of cases, the "end of assignment" feedback that is left for you by another oDesk member cannot be removed. The oDesk feedback feature provides buyers and providers with the opportunity to describe their assignment experiences. This feedback represents the user's opinion, and because of this, oDesk cannot edit these comments or scores, nor can we investigate them for accuracy.

Please try to work any issues with the other user directly. If the other party agrees to raise your feedback score or revise their comments, follow these directions to enable feedback changes.

If you feel the feedback was inflammatory or offensive, we recommend making the feedback comments private and contacting oDesk. Please see the oDesk Feedback Policies for further information.


Can my feedback be changed?

We encourage all buyers and providers to work out any issues they have before the end of assignments, but in some cases, users have a need to modify feedback scores after they have been submitted. We allow users to enable changes on feedback they received in order to facilitate the resolution of any outstanding issues on projects. Please try to work any issues with the other user directly.

If the other party agrees to raise your feedback score or revise their comments, follow these directions to enable feedback changes.

Please note:

  • This feature is intended to be used only after all issues have been resolved and you have discussed the feedback with the other user.
  • You may hide the comments associated with an assignment, but not the feedback score itself.
  • Once you click the "enable provider/buy to change feedback" link, oDesk will send an email to the user that left the feedback.
  • They will have up to 14 days to make a change to the feedback.
  • You may only make a request for changes once on each feedback received. If the 14 days expires without any changes being made, you will not be able to request a change to that feedback score again.



Can I change the feedback I have given the oDesk customer I worked with?

Yes, but you need to contact the user you left the feedback for directly. Tell them you would like to raise the feedback score or revise the comments, and ask them to follow these directions to enable feedback changes.


Can I submit feedback for an oDesk customer after the Review period is over?

Yes, but you need to contact the user you left the feedback for directly. Tell them you are ready to leave a feedback score and comments, and ask them to follow these directions to enable feedback changes. It is best to tell them what the feedback score and comments will be when you make the request. Users won't agree to enable changes if they think you're going to leave negative feedback!
