Assignments
Loading
An assignment is created when a buyer hires a provider to work on a job. The My Jobs > Assignments page is available to everyone who has active or ended assignments. Hiring managers and admins have buyer control for all their team's assignments.
Staffing managers have access to all their affiliated contractor's assignments. Affiliated contractors have access to all their own assignments, but cannot see or change their rates.
Your list of assignments is divided into two tabs (active and ended) based on the assignment's status. Hiring and staffing managers can filter the list by provider or team. For each assignment, we divide the important information into several columns (not all users will see all columns).
- ID
- The identifying reference number for your assignment. Please include this number when contacting Customer Support.
- Type
- Users who have assignments as a buyer and as a provider are shown which side of the relationship they're on for each assignment in the list.
- Status
- Active: A provider has been hired and can start logging hours on the start date. Buyers are automatically billed for hours and may submit manual payments on active assignments.
- Ended: The provider can no longer log hours. Buyers may submit payments on ended assignments. Feedback must be left within 14 days of ending the assignment. Both the start and end dates are listed.
- Suspended: There's a problem (usually with the buyer's payment method); please contact Customer Support. Do not continue to work on a suspended assignment.
- Provider/Assignment
- The provider's name and user ID.
- The job title as it appears on the both users' work histories. The title cannot be changed.
- Linked to the assignment details page with complete assignment info and links for all related actions.
- Hired by
- The names of the team and the manager who hired the provider.
- Staffed by
- The name of the affiliated provider company, if any. Click the name to view the company's profile.
- Most providers are not affiliated with provider companies. They are independent contractors.
- Terms
- Hourly: The hourly rate and weekly limit. Buyers see the rates they pay (including the oDesk fee). Providers see the rates they earn (does not include the oDesk fee).
- Fixed-price: The amounts agreed and paid (including the oDesk fee).
- Feedback/Actions
- Feedback scores given and received on ended assignments. Feedback is double-blind; you cannot see feedback left for you until you leave feedback for them.
- Read more about available actions below.
Just about everything for an assignment that isn't part of doing the actual work takes place in My Jobs > Assignments. Click on the options below to learn more about these features.
If you think you've been hired but can't log hours, please check the assignment's status in My Jobs > Assignments. Check the start date and confirm the assignment hasn't been suspended or ended.
You will not have access to an active assignment until the start date. That's when you're officially added to the team and can log hours.
If the job is not listed in Assignments, you have not been hired. Do not work on a suspended, ended or completely unlisted assignment.
