On oDesk, your feedback is your reputation. We provide a feedback system for buyers and providers to rate each other at the end of assignments. This allows all our active users to earn and display a reputation within our community.
When reading work histories, hover over the magnifying glass icon to view the ratings by category and the whole comment. Don't judge by stars alone! Always read the comments to find out what your fellow oDesk users had to say about them before you apply to a job or invite to an interview.
- * = Terrible
- ** = Poor
- *** = Just OK
- **** = Good
- ***** = Excellent
An assignment's feedback score is broken into 6 categories, each carrying the following weight:
- Skills - 20%
- Quality - 20%
- Availability - 15%
- Deadlines - 15%
- Communication - 15%
- Cooperation - 15%
Your overall feedback score is weighted by the net Dollar value of the assignments (Net Dollar Value = Total Pay - Refunded Pay). If the other user didn't give you a feedback score, the assignment is excluded from the calculation. For example:
A provider has a $1000 assignment with 5 stars, a $200 assignment with 1 star and a $50 assignment with no feedback. The overall feedback score would be 4.33.
Your last six months feedback score is weighted by the net value of the assignments. Feedbacks received during the last six months and current assignments are included. Current assignments are assigned your all-time feedback score and their dollar their net earnings from the past 6 months.
In the last six months, a provider has a $1000 assignment with 5 stars, a $200 assignment with 1 star and a $500 ongoing assignment. The provider's all-time feedback score is 4.0. The last six months feedback score would be 4.24
Assignments with less than $1 in net earnings are hidden from both users' work histories and excluded from the overall feedback score.
You can start accruing and giving feedback when your first assignment ends. You can only leave feedback on assignments that have already ended. Want to leave feedback without ending the assignment? Just change the hourly rate. A change as small as $0.01 per hour automatically creates a new assignment and lets both users leave feedback.
You will rate the other user on Skills, Quality, Availability, Deadlines, Communication and Cooperation using a scale of 1 star (terrible) to 5 stars (excellent). We strongly encourage you to leave a comment as well.
Feedback is double-blind and becomes public in the work history when both buyer and provider have left it or 14 days from ending the assignment (whichever comes first). We show both users' feedbacks side-by-side so everyone can see both points of view.
The user who ends the assignment will be asked to leave feedback (the form takes you directly to Step 4 below). The other user then has 14 days to leave feedback in return. If it's been more than 14 days since the job ended, you can't leave feedback unless the recipient enables feedback changes.
- Go to My Jobs > Assignments. Select the Ended tab.
- Find the correct assignment in the list. Click the Title in the Assignment column.
- Click the Leave Feedback link in the Feedback section of the assignment details page.
- Rate the buyer or provider in all 6 categories and leave a comment. Please be fair and honest with your feedback. It will be visible in the user's work history. We also urge you to leave a detailed comment to elaborate; it will help future buyers and providers learn from your experience.
- Click the Submit button when you are finished. This cannot be undone! You cannot make changes later unless the recipient enables them.
oDesk feedback is a double-blind system. The other user can't see the feedback you left them until after they've left feedback for you!
Staffing managers and affiliated contractors both have the ability to leave feedback. The directions are the same for both types of users.
For feedback givers: You can't change feedback unless the recipient enables feedback changes (directions below). The same process applies if you didn't leave feedback during the original 14 day feedback window. Once changes are enabled, you can follow the directions above to leave new feedback.
For feedback recipients: Be very careful about enabling feedback changes. The other user will be able to raise or lower your score as well as change the comments. And you can only enable changes once per assignment. To enable feedback changes:
- Go to My Jobs > Assignments. Select the Ended tab.
- Find the correct assignment in the list. Click the Title in the Assignment column.
- Click the enable [buyer/provider] to change feedback link in the Feedback section of the assignment details page. This cannot be undone!
- The feedback giver will notified that changes are enabled. Then they can follow the directions above to leave new feedback.
You can choose to hide the comments that are left for you, but not the feedback score. Only the feedback recipient can hide a comment. In place of the hidden comment, your work history feedback details will say "User has made this comment private." To hide a comment:
- Go to My Jobs > Assignments. Select the Ended tab.
- Find the correct assignment in the list. Click the Title in the Assignment column.
- Click the Make [buyer's/provider's] comments private link in the Feedback section of the assignment details page.
- Uncheck the box next to Show as part of the public assignment history.
- Click the Submit button. You can go back and change this again at any time.
We generally do not recommend hiding comments. Other users can see that you've hidden them and may find that suspicious.
In the majority of cases, no. Feedback gives all users the opportunity to describe their assignment experiences. Feedback represents the user's opinion and because of this, oDesk cannot edit these comments or scores (nor can we investigate them for accuracy). Read the oDesk Feedback Policy for further information.
Please try to work out any issues with the other user directly. If the other user agrees to raise your feedback score or revise their comments, follow the directions above to enable feedback changes. But if you feel the feedback was inflammatory or offensive, we do recommend hiding the feedback comments and contacting oDesk. There are limited circumstances where we can make changes to a comment.
Providers can give refunds on ended assignments. Refunding all the earnings will remove the assignment and feedback from your profile.
My provider will not give me my code or threatens to damage my site if I don't give him good feedback.
My buyers want me to do x/y/z for her for free or she will give me bad feedback.
Feedback blackmail is a violation of oDesk policy. If you have evidence of violations please contact Customer Support. oDesk will investigate and take action, potentially changing the feedback or closing the violator's account. We do take these accusations seriously, but we need some form of evidence (emails, chat transcripts, etc.) to take action.
