Company Types

What's the difference between a Buyer Company and a Provider Company?

On oDesk, a Company is a Company. The system doesn't care which type you have - your Company can even be both! The Admins always have the same options in My oDesk -> Team Admin.

What makes a Buyer Company different than a Provider Company is how you use it.

  • A Buyer Company posts jobs and hires Providers. To use the 'Buyer' features of My oDesk, you'll need Hiring Manager privileges. Click here to read more about posting job and hiring.
  • A Provider Company sells the services of Affiliated Contractors (ACs). To use the 'Provider' features of My oDesk, you'll need Staffing Manager privileges. Click here to read more about Provider Companies.
Please note that all AC earnings go to the Provider Company. For the time being, there is no way to pay ACs inside the oDesk system. A team payroll system is coming soon, but until then you'll need to make other arrangements.
