Withdrawal Methods for Providers

Loading
What withdrawal methods are available?
oDesk offers a variety of withdrawal methods. Click on the names below to learn more about your options.
Withdrawal fees, country support and exchange rates vary widely. Please reach each method to find the one with the best combination of convenience and fees for you. You can search the forums or post a question for advice from users in your own country. For providers in the USA, we recommend free ACH withdrawals.
How do I add a withdrawal method?
You'll need to activate a withdrawal method on your account before you can make a withdrawal. For security purposes, activation takes 4 days. However, registering for new accounts with Payoneer, Moneybookers or PayPal may take longer to complete (please follow those links for specifics). We encourage you to start the process as soon as possible.
  1. Go to Payments > Payment Methods. Select the Withdrawals tab.
  2. Click the link in the Actions column to add the withdrawal method of your choice.
  3. Additional steps vary by method, please see: ACH, PayPal, Payoneer, Moneybookers, Wire Transfer
To use PayPal or Moneybookers you must register your @odesk.com or personal email address (in Profile > User Info) with these services (or add one of these addresses to an existing account).
How do I withdraw earnings?
You'll need an active withdrawal method and an available balance on your oDesk account to make a withdrawal in Payments > Withdrawals. (Read more about making withdrawals.)
Your earnings are not withdrawn automatically; you have complete control over when and how much to withdraw. Withdraw earnings the day they become available or make larger withdrawals less frequently to reduce your fees. You can even split your earnings between multiple withdrawal methods.
How do I remove a withdrawal method?
Directions for removing withdrawal methods vary. For additional information, please see: ACH, PayPal, Payoneer, Moneybookers, Wire Transfer.
You can have multiple, active withdrawal methods simultaneously (and even multiple bank accounts). So there's no need to remove one withdrawal method before adding another. You can even add multiple bank accounts for ACH or Wire Transfer.

Payoneer

Payoneer accounts should be closed with Payoneer directly. We send money to your card through this service; we do not control the account itself. Removing Payoneer from your list of active withdrawal methods is not self-service, but is generally unnecessary. Please contact Customer Support if you need to completely disconnect oDesk from your Payoneer account.

PayPal and Moneybookers

PayPal and Moneybookers accounts should be closed with those companies directly. We send money to your email address through these services; we do not control the accounts themselves.
  1. Go to Payments > Payment Methods. Select the Withdrawals tab.
  2. Press the Remove button in the Actions column next to the account you'd like to remove.
  3. Press the Confirm button in the Actions column.

ACH and Wire Transfer

ACH and Wire Transfer withdrawals are sent to your bank account directly by oDesk. We understand this is sensitive information and allow you to remove it from our system at any time.
  1. Go to Payments > Payment Methods. Select the Withdrawals tab.
  2. Press the Remove button in the Actions column next to the bank account you'd like to remove.
  3. Press the Confirm button in the Actions column.
What are W-9 and 1099 forms?
These are IRS tax forms. All providers in the USA are required to file a W-9 with oDesk prior to withdrawing their earnings. (Read more about the W-9 and 1099 tax forms.)
  • W-9: A mandatory IRS form that allow oDesk to report your income for tax purposes.
  • 1099: An annual income statement sent to you and the IRS to report your income for tax purposes.
Providers in other countries may be responsible for paying tax on their oDesk earnings. You'll need to contact a local tax professional for more information. Once you know what you need, you may contact Customer Support for assistance gathering the correct documentation.
