How do I set a weekly limit?

Many buyers want to control how many hours their providers can bill them in a week. oDesk makes this easy! You may put a weekly limit on any provider. You will never be billed for hours worked over the limit.

Here's the basics you need to know:

  • Limits can only be set for hourly jobs.
  • Limits can be set from 0 - 168 hours.
  • Limits can be set upon hiring a provider or at any time during an active assignment. Change the limit anytime by going to the My oDesk -> Hire -> My Assignments.
  • Limits can only be set or changed by hiring managers.
  • Any increases to a weekly limit will take effect immediately.
  • Any decreases to a weekly limit will take effect in the following work week.
  • If you want the limit to be in effect for a single week, submit the decrease as soon as the week starts and make sure you put through your decrease before the week is over.
  • Providers will be able to log hours over the limit (overtime hours), but buyers will never be billed for these hours. Buyers may choose to pay for these hours by issuing a bonus payment.
  • When the limit is increased, we do not re-evaluate over-the-limit time retroactively.

To change the weekly limit, follow the steps below:

1. Log in using your oDesk user ID and password.

2. Go to My oDesk -> Hire -> My Assignments.

3. If you have hiring privileges for multiple teams, you'll need to select the team the assignment you want to look at is part of.

4. Click View in the Actions column next to the correct assignment.

5. You will see details of your provider's current hourly rate, total pay, and currently weekly limit. Click on the Change Limits link.

6. Check the box to enable a weekly limit on this assignment. Enter the maximum number of hours you wish you provider to be able to bill per week for this assignment. Click the Submit button. An increase will go into effect immediately. A decrease will go into effect the following work week.
