How to decrease your active assignment's rate

Only the buyer can raise the rate on an active assignment. Only the provider (or staffing manager) can decrease the rate on an active assignment.

Please note that provider companies can do self-service rate changes using their staffing manager console.

Fixed Price Jobs

There is no option to increase or decrease the bid on an active fixed price assignment. Why? Because there's no need for one. There are no invoices created by a fixed price assignment. The buyer is never automatically charged and always has complete control over if, when, and how much to pay the provider. If a buyer wants to pay more than the original bid they simply need to enter a larger dollar amount in the pay entry field. If a provider wants to specify a reduced bid amount, they should tell the buyer directly.

Hourly Jobs

1. Go to My oDesk -> Get Hired -> My Assignments.

2. Click the 'View' link in the Actions column next to the the correct job. Don't see the job your looking for? Make sure you've selected Active in the Status drop-down menu.

3. Click the Decrease Rate button on the Assignment Details page.

4. Edit the New Pay Rate field (remember that you can only decrease the rate). This is the amount you are asking to earn per hour. Below this, you can clearly see the oDesk Service Fee that will be added and the New Charge Rate that will be visible to the buyer. The oDesk Service Fee is always 10% of the total charged to the buyer.

5. Press the Decrease Rate button at the top or bottom of the 'Decrease Rate' box to apply your changes.
