Policy on Managing and Working on Assignments

Buyers - Guidelines for Managing and Completing Assignments

In addition to the above listing requirements, Buyers also agree to the following items while engaged in active assignments:

  • Utilize the payment mechanisms provided only via the oDesk Marketplace. (Please read the Billing & Payment Policy)
  • After the Assignment has ceased and regardless of completion or outcome, leave objective, balanced ratings and feedback and report any violation of the feedback policies. (Please read the Feedback Policy)
  • First attempt to resolve all conflicts and disputes directly between Users before contacting oDesk Customer Service. (Please read the Dispute Resolution Policy)

Additionally, oDesk recommends all Buyers follow these guidelines:

  • Once the assignment has begun, manage the Assignment by regularly reviewing the Work Diaries, Time Logs, submitted interim work, emails and/or any status reports or any other means of communicating progress.
  • Respond in a timely fashion to requests for additional information, instructions or other clarifying data that will assist the Provider in a timely and effective completion of your assignment.
  • Treat all oDesk users with respect.
  • Notify Providers as soon as possible about ending of assignments

Violation of these guidelines may result in suspension or termination of your account. If you are aware of a potential violation, please submit a Help Ticket.

Assignment Guidelines for Providers

You agree to the following guidelines while engaged or completing an assignment:

  • (Hourly Assignments Only) Utilize the Team Room, Work Diary and time logging capabilities provided within oDesk to provide an accurate record of your hours worked.
  • (Hourly Assignments Only) Logging of all time (both online and offline) honestly and accurately
  • (Hourly Assignments Only) Logging all possible time online with oDesk Team; offline hours are not guaranteed by oDesk and, as such, you should seek approval from your Buyer before working offline. oDesk reserves the right to notify Buyers of unusual patterns of offline billing.
  • Maintain reliable equipment, including computer, internet connection, and other required tools
  • Inform the Buyer if a committed deliverable will be missed, offering an explanation and proposing a revised date.
  • If you are unable to complete the Assignment, alert Customer Service so that oDesk is aware of the situation and can offer assistance to the Buyer.
  • Give 2 weeks notification to oDesk and any affected oDesk buyers of all leave of absences and scheduled holidays (via the Leave Info feature).
  • Respond promptly, within 1 business day, to all Assignment-related communication
  • Utilize the payment mechanisms provided only via the oDesk Marketplace.
  • After the Assignment is completed, leave objective, balanced ratings and feedback.
  • After the Assignment has ceased and regardless of completion or outcome, leave objective, balanced ratings and feedback and report any violation of the feedback policies.
  • Inform the buyer and receive express, written authorization to substitute another provider in place of the one originally selected by the buyer.
  • Treat intellectual property with the utmost care and security
  • Treat all other oDesk users with respect
