How to update My Public Profile

You may update your public profile at any time. It contains your most basic profile info, so please keep it up-to-date.

1. Go to My oDesk -> Profile & Settings -> My Provider Profile.

2. Press the Add or Edit button in the 'My Public Profile' box.

3. Check this information regularly to make sure it is still accurate.

  • Profile Access - Controls your privacy settings. More about Profile Access.
  • Show my Full Name - Check this box and your full name (instead of just first name and last initial) will appear in the candidacy list when you apply to a job. This may help you stand out from the crowd. Leave it unchecked for more privacy.
  • Primary Role - Select the job title that sounds most like what you're looking for. Be sure to update this if your goals change.

  • Title - Enter a title for yourself, and try to make it sound interesting. Ideally, it should be unique, show your personality, and identify your most important skill. Including the skill spelled exactly as it appears in the Find Providers -> Browse by Skill section will make it easier for buyers to find you. But be selective and choose your wording carefully. Your title is the first thing a buyer will see about you, and a long list of skills in your title looks unprofessional.

  • Availability - Select how many hours per week you could work. More about Availability.
  • Years of Experience - Select how many years of work experience you have in your Primary Role. Totally unrelated past work really shouldn't be counted here.
  • English - Rate your English skills. Follow the guidelines and be honest. Most jobs do not require fluency, and buyers get very upset if you misrepresent your ability to communicate in English.
  • Objective - Enter a buyer-focused objective. Think of this as your sales pitch. Buyers want to hear about what you can do for them, not what they can do for you! Only the first few lines initially show in your profile, so make them good enough so the buyer clicks to read more. Explain what makes you unique, and show your personality. Just make sure it still sounds professional. Write your objective in a word processor so you can spell/grammar check it, read it out loud and show it to a friend to make sure you're happy with the way it sounds, then paste it here when you are done. You may use HTML to format this field.

4. Press the Save button at the top or bottom of the box to apply your changes.
