Converting from freelancer to create a Provider Company

Why should I want to create a Provider Company?

As an oDesk freelancer, you can apply to jobs, work, and earn money from oDesk Buyers. By creating a Company, you can invite colleagues to work for you. You can apply to jobs for them and manage their projects. You can also set their rates - since they work for you, most oDesk Provider Companies hire our their contractors for more than they pay them, earning money in the process.

Let's say you earn $20.00 an hour on oDesk. You then create a new Company, and invite five colleagues to work for you. You hire them out on oDesk for $20.00 per hour, and pay them $15.00 (after all, they are less experienced than you, but since you are managing them you can ensure they deliver top-quality work). You keep the $5 difference, thus earning $25.00 for each hour they work.

There are many Providers on oDesk who started as freelances, but after creating Provider Companies have seen their earnings double, triple, or more.

How does Provider Company feedback work?

All the feedback earned by Affiliated Contractors in a Provider Company is combined to create the Provider Company feedback score.

Okay, I'm ready to create my own Provider Company. What do I do?

You need to go read this article for more information.

Important Note: If you are currently a provider you will not be able to create a Provider Company (so that can sell the services of Affiliated Contractors) as long as you have active assignments. You will either need to end the assignments and ask the buyers to rehire you after you create the new Company, or wait a few weeks until we fix this issue.
