    I want to build an informational web site about Tramadol, a very popular prescription pain killer.  I’m going to make web pages for many related search phrases that people use when looking for Tramadol, from a site like Google.  At the bottom of this email, you can see a list of these search phrases, which I would like you to work with.  I don’t need any help designing web pages, but I need 2-3 paragraphs about each phrase.  You will see this can be tedious because the phrases are so closely related.  For example, I need different pages for tramadol online, online tramadol, and tramadol on line.

 

As you continue to research each topic you will most likely find some new information that is rather specific to the topic(search phrase) you seek.  Scan over the top 20 results for a topic than visit the five sites you think might provide interesting information.  If you find something good that might be more useful for one of your other topics, paraphrase it for the other topic.

 

    I am not looking for a technical research paper.  Basically, I’m looking for easy reading with a few tid-bits of eye catching facts.  The main purpose of the writing is to make people feel like they’ve come to the right place while looking for the given search phrase.  A secondary purpose is to stoke the surfers’ emotional and intellectual interests so they will continue on to other sites, which I will link to after your paragraphs.  This is very similar to sales copy writing without the difficult task of getting someone to spend money.  If you don’t feel confident about your copy writing skills, I have several books and an amazing writing program that can help.  I also wrote a web page that may explain it in more detail:

More info on the secondary purpose:

Think hard about your audience when you are researching.  They are mostly people with a prescription for Tramadol looking for a deal, or people who need more information before seeing a doctor.  They will love to find some answers to questions, but they will need considerably less technical information than a teacher grading a research paper.

 

Too many facts at once will make the page harder to digest for some web surfers.  For each topic, I'm targeting 2-6 sentences from the research you do.  For the rest, put yourself in the shoes of the average person who just typed the topic into a search engine.  Basically, you can just BS the rest.  Try to sound friendly and assuring, as if you are talking to a friend at work (who has a problem, which you've just looked into for them).

 

 

I basically summarize the main point of the secondary purpose as putting yourself in the shoes of the average web surfer who is searching for your topic.  The other aspects of copy writing are to grab the reader’s attention and encourage them to take action now.  Sales copy writing is usually used to inspire a person to make a purchase or become a member.  In search copy writing, I only need to inspire someone to click to other web sites.  These sites are usually written very well, with sales copy writing in mind.)  Actually, I also need any encouragement to be subtle.  I'm not able to specifically ask visitors to click through; I want to only obtain click-throughs from people who are truly interested in making a purchase.  That last thought is the purest essence of the secondary purpose.

 

 

So use your imagination... Observe how the pros do it, while doing your research... Or simply ignore this, secondary purpose of the assignment.  No problem!

 

 

    Where to begin?  First I would copy the list of phrases into a program like Microsoft Word and make them big and bold.  Next, I recommend using the first 10 (or 20) phrases on your favorite search engine and paraphrasing interesting (or explanatory) facts you find.  It is imperative that you do not cut and paste the information you find; plagiarized material is useless to me.  As you go, move your new information to other phrases if you deem it appropriate.  By the time you have a few ideas for the first 20 phrases, you will essentially be an expert in the field and writing about various Tramadol topics should become relatively easy.

 

    I’m more interested in quantity than quality.  The more search phrases you cover the more web pages I’ll have.  There are literally thousands of valuable phrases for Tramadol alone, so don’t worry about job security :O)  No one could ever predict what might become a profitable web page for me, so don’t pour your heart into trying to make a masterpiece.  I recommend writing blindly and then come back later for a quick proof-reading.

 

    So, I need 2-3 paragraphs for each topic.  Some can be long, or very short.  Whatever makes sense to you.  I do need you use the search phrase once or twice per paragraph.  It would be good to use some words commonly associated with the pharmaceutical or medical industries as long as they don’t seem forced or make it hard to read.  When trying to write for your readers, don’t forget they are suffering from pain and looking for a cheap, effective solution.

 

I usually don't try to give too much direction, as to exactly how I want this project completed.  For it is the sheer uniqueness of my writing team, that helps me produce desirably varied results.  If you stray too far from my vision in your daily updates, I'll let you know.  In most cases, I would just wait until you completed the rough draft, then recommend a couple minor revisions.

I figure it will take might 6 hours to organize research information, 4 to convert that into first draft paragraphs, and 2 to proof-read, edit and enhance the paragraphs.  I was targeting project completion in about 3 weeks.  The deadline is not that strict.  If you have other obligations, you can spread the workload out to six weeks.

    Sending me your work in MS Word is ideal.  I’d prefer that you keep all the topics in one file, as opposed to a separate file for each.  This will make it easier for me to work with when you’re done.  Also, it will be natural for you to move paragraphs or notes to the ideal topic, which should become helpful once you’ve written about many closely related topic.
