Two times I was waiting 3-4 days for Bashar's answer on email. - He needs this project ASAP :)
He paid me $50 for Skype conversations to brainstorm his project since December 15, 2008.
Two times he changed his mind about where he wants to use me: should I write GUI or Business logic.
I am looking for a talented developer who has excellent CSS,HTML,Java and Groovy skills. The developer MUST be proficient in W3C web standards and browser compatiblity issues, especially in Internet Explorer version 6 and 7. The developer must know by heart all the common IE css bugs and how to fix them/ work around them. The developer must also know how to parse and modify an HTML/CSS file programtically using Cobra (http://lobobrowser.org/cobra.jsp). I am using Groovy to do the programatic parsing (it really makes the code a lot shorter) so the developer must also know some Groovy. I am going to pay you per task, not per the hour. I will give you an IE CSS bug (for a particaulr IE version) and you will send me the code to programmatically parse a file, detect the bug, and fix it. The code must cover most of the cases and will be tested thoroughly. I will pay you $25 for each bug task.

Very negative experience. We agreed on a fixed-price project and paid him 10% down. I gave him VERY specific instructions for the task: 1- Checked in a project in SVN for him as a starting point 2- Gave him links/resources..etc 3- Sent him very detailed email on what the task is. Later on he emails me and asks to change the project type to hourly. I have a very busy schedule so I can't always respond to emails on time, so a few days later I email him saying OK no problem. He emails me back saying I am too busy to work on this project let's cancel it - after I already paid him 10% down and he delivered ZERO code!
Contractor shouldn't have agreed to the task in the first place if he couldn't deliver, or if he didn't like the fixed price approach - and definitely shouldn't ask for a 10% down if can't commit. Contractor should be able to work on his own when he as a very clear and specific task at hand and not wait for my input/response to proceed. I definitely won't hire him again.
