Mission: Create a communication/collaboration platform that borrows from the tools of 37signals.com and the customizable interface of iGoogle.
Purpose: To enhance collaboration within a closed community and to provide an easily manageable content management system that uses shared community content for the administrator designed front page for non-user visitors to the site.
In the future, I hope to allow for add-on applications that are industry specific, such as a student management system for schools.
Implementation: Services will be implemented as widgets that are either ‘Private’ or ‘Shared with group(s).’ Services will include: -microblogging- 140 Character limit, such as in Twitter -Checklists -File uploads for storage and sharing -Notes for private and public use
Services that may be developed later. -Voice recording and messaging utility -Youtube video embed -Image/gallery function
Multiple instances of differing widgets will be allowed. (Example: a user will be able to write a private microblog on dietary notes and a shared microblog of school lesson notes.)
Widgets: Each widget may be displayed in full size or minimized to the widget title head to fit more on a tab. Widget location may be modified by dragging the widget to the desired location on the page.
Tabs: Tabs should be placed on the left side to increase the number of possible tabs. Some tabs will be created by default, such as a tab that holds all widgets of a particular type (ex: “All Files”, “All Journals.”)
Moving Tabs: Other tabs will be created by user choice. Users may add widgets to these pages/tabs by selecting to create the widget while on the tab or by dragging a widget over the tab of the desired location.
New Widgets: New widgets should be created by way of a drop-down listbox at the top of each column in a tab. This makes it easier to create new widgets in the iPhone or iPod touch.
User interface: AJAX drag and drop widgets with Rails widgets that are managed in a database. |
