INSTRUCTIONS- 2 November 2009

Who we are:
We transcribe voicemail messages, memos, letters and other documents.  The voicemail message files average 1-2 minutes in length, while the other recordings are typically longer.

What we require:
1. Accurate spelling and punctuation
2. Typists that know how to follow instructions
3. Typists that can listen to voice files and accurately type what they hear
4. Speed. You don’t have to be the fastest typist, but you can’t be too slow either.
5. Honesty and Integrity

How to get started to determine if you qualify for the job:

The following must be done in order.

1. Apply for the job on oDesk and tell us a little bit about yourself.

2. Create your typist account.

In the Phone Number field, type ODESK.  

When you create your typist account, you are agreeing to abide by our strict confidentiality requirements and code of ethics. [If you have already created a typist account, you should log in and write "ODESK" in the Phone Number field].

3. Then, carefully review and study the Typist Guidelines (twice):

5. Then, go to http://tinyurl.com/newtypingjob and answer each question, and fill out the form completely. This form should not be filled out until after you have created your typist account.  Click on the voice files and type all 4 of them in the space provided. Time yourself. Then enter how long it took, and be honest! Make sure you follow the instructions from the Guidelines. You must use Firefox or Safari browser.

6. If we like the quality of your work, and your ability to follow instructions you may receive a notice that you have been hired. All reference to “time” is in US Central Standard Time (CST). 

7. Log in to oDesk and change your rate to $0.01 (one cent) per hour. (Your compensation will be paid as a Bonus).  As soon as you change your pay rate to one cent per hour, we will change your maximum hours to 168/ week (24 hours x 7 days).

8.  If we do not like the quality of your work, or you did not follow directions, you will not receive an email from us, but you will receive a “reject” notice through oDesk.

9. Throughout the day we will activate typist accounts. It will be your responsibility to check to see if your test account is active.  

10.  Once you have been hired, add the following contacts to Yahoo Messenger: idictate3, and idictate. Your first point of contact will be idictate3.  Again, do NOT add Yahoo Messenger contacts until you are hired.

11. Be sure to keep Yahoo Messenger open at all times while you are working.

12. If you receive a Yahoo Messenger request to log in, you must first make sure that you received instructions to work via oDesk.  Note that we are prepared to modify the weekly hours as necessary.  Also, when you take breaks, be sure to sign off.

13. When you want to work you will log in to http://typists.quicktate.com. Make sure you follow the instructions from the Guidelines and on the screen (regarding # of words to type, what to do if the voice is in a different different language, etc.). 


Compensation:
We pay our non-oDesk typists typists .0025 per word (one-fourth of a cent) and the iDictate typists .005 (half cent) per word.

If a typist types 60 words per minute, that would be about 3,600 words per hour.  If you reduce this 3,600 by 20% to account for the time it takes a file to load (or waiting for a file), you would estimate that you could possibly type 2,880 words per hour.  2,880 x .0025 equals $7.20 per hour.  So if a typist typed at this rate, their hourly pay should equal approximately $7.20.  Of course if you typed slower you would earn less; and if you typed faster, your earnings would be more.

Your compensation would then be paid through oDesk as a Bonus.

Then, if you were a real good typist and you graduated to type for iDictate, the above numbers would be double. If you do eventually type for iDictate, we would ask that you spend 20% of your time on Quicktate files. If we don't COMPLETE the 0-2 minute voicemail messages within 5 minutes of receiving them, our customer will not pay us for the work.

There are advantages and disadvantages to this payment plan.

Advantages:  
1. If you type medium to fast, you could make more money than if your were paid hourly;
2. You can work as many or as few hours as you want; 
3. You can work days, nights, mornings, and evenings - even 24 hours a day if you want;
4. You don't have to be told when you can work.... Just log in and type!
5. Quicktate can be your primary job or you can type files "in between" other jobs;

Disadvantages:
1. If you are a slow typist, you won’t earn very money money; you will only make money for the work that you do;

Payment Procedures:
A. Track your hours as usual so we'll know who is working.

B. At the end of the week, we will prepare a report showing the number of words you typed.  We will then multiply your total words by $0.0025 to determine your earnings. So, if you typed 50,000 words in a week, you would earn $125.

C. We will then increase your earnings by 5%.

D. We will then post your earnings on oDesk as a Bonus. 

E. oDesk will then charge you their 10% fee, but in reality, we will be splitting the fee, 5% from each of us.
