If you can set up and manage all aspects of a Linux server and can complete tasks quickly and efficiently, we have a long-term project for you.
For the first two months, you will work 10-20 hours a month. And, starting in January, 2010, you will get 20-40 hours per month. (If you can design great websites using all the latest languages such as php, flash, ajax, actionscript, and others, you will have the opportunity to develop websites for us.)
As our server administrator, you will…
1. Create automated systems to check our server response time and to make sure our web server, mail server, dns server, database server, or any other server software we use, is working properly. When an error is detected, the scripts will notify you and us by email.
2. Inspect our log files for possible intrusion attempts and errors in order to detect potential security threats or server problems. Discover and remove viruses and worms and make sure our server has the newest security updates.
3. Ensure our applications perform at the proper level and not taking too much resource in terms of memory and CPU, sending us notifications t by email automatically.
4. Install software such as ffmpeg, filechucker, and others.
5. Interact with our website development team and handle their questions and requests, such as setting up mySQL and shell and ftp accesses.
6. Develop a method for backing up the websites (2-5) hosted on our server automatically to our local one.
7. Set up a new Linux server (CentOS) (in January, 2010) and migrate the old one to it. The hosting company will install CentOS. You just have to create the control panel, mySQL, and other configurations.
If you feel you can handle these duties proficiently, please bid on the project.
In your cover letter, explain why you’re qualified for the job and state your hourly or monthly rate.
To make sure you have read the entire job description and can follow a simple instruction, put the following sentence at the top of your cover letter…
“I have read and understood the entire project.”
If you don’t place this sentence in your cover letter, we will reject you even if you are the best person for the job.
If you’re a potential candidate, we’ll arrange for an interview by November 2, 2009. |
