After reviewing the requirements and very detailed specifications for this project, Susanne came across as very confident not only in her ability to complete the project but that she could easily have it finished before the deadline which was 8 business days away.

Susanne not only missed the deadline, but was still trying to complete the project 8 business days after the deadline.  She provided many explanations throughout the project such as a sick family member, then a sick child, then internet service down, then server down, etc... She showed enough progress throughout that I still believed she could complete it if given more time, so we gave more time.  However, every time we went to review the work there were many errors. After taking twice as long on the project and showing work that was full of errors, I simply lost confidence in her aiblity to finish it error free and complete so we hired someone else. 

This new programmer tried to pick up where Susanne left off in order to complete the project but found it very difficult to understand the structure, found many areas where many processes were used when far fewer would have been more efficient, and that the basic structure was incompatible with the way in which this program needed to be integrated into our site which was clearly defined in the project specs.  

I do understand that it can bed difficult for any programmer to jump into a project that has been started by another programmer so I do take that into consideration.  And, Susanne did offer to clean up the code, but it was so far from where it needed to be we just decided to scrap the code she created and basically start over.

It has been a very disappointing experience. We paid for something that we cannot use and our deadline has come and gone.  So now we are over budget and way past deadline and are basically having to start over.
