Do some extra-work activities to earn myself some extra cash to be able to spend some time with my family in places like Egypt,
OR, find some very interesting project that features latest technologies in most advanced algorithms, that will keep my brain from dying from attacks of failed enthusiasm because of my everyday boring job as a portal architect.
What I've learned at an almost perfect level in the last 2 years of work in the field of IT:
Databases
. Everything that can have a solid structure with foreign keys, deletion rules, maybe triggers, softens my heart. I've studied
MSSQL
at the university, and it is what I'm working with now (writing queries, procedures, transferring data between 3 different servers and over 20 different databases at a telecommunication company). Also I have very extensive knowledge of
FirebirdSQL
, it being the DB engine used for over 1 year, every 5 days of every week.
MySQL
- learned it recently, took care, read manuals, tips and tricks, performance guides, etc. Done 2 small projects from scrap, based on MySQL.
PHP
. Some say that those who work in PHP aren't programmers. What can I say? If You agree, then you haven't met qualified PHP programmers, Yet. PHP is the most flexible language ever conceived. I can do things in PHP in just 1 week, that would take months to build on other systems. And my code works FAST. While working with
www.bekaert.com
at an internal use Business Intelligence system, I made a report that could be generated on the same amount of data, hundreds of times faster than it was programmed by another IT company using ASP.NET. And my version had more extensive functionality, it being able to provide on-the-fly sorting of rows/columns, filtering, simulating, simple graphics, etc. Would do more if needed. So what can I do in PHP? EVERYTHING that's web-based. From existing tools in PHP I am extremely well familiarized with
Smarty
Template Engine,
ADODB PHP Abstraction Layer
,
XAJAX
. I am well familiarized with
FPDF
and
TCPDF
. Moderately familiarized with
Symfony
,
CakePHP
. Have seen Drupal working and I Do want to get involved in it deeper, but I can't find the opportunity.
C++
. That's my weakest spot, I guess. I had little practice in C++, and ain't very good at it. The best I could do with it is adapting and modifying the OpenSource Physics Simulation Framework called
Bullet Dynamics
. First I did a wrapper class, to make it simpler for my fellow programmers to make their super hot 3D Models with effects to add dynamics to them. But what bugged me the most was the lack of proper CCD (Continuous Colision Detection), so I had to dig up libraries and try to make my own. After all, it's a full size space simulator we're talking about. Besides CCD, I successfully added 2 ways of managing concave 3D objects - as a mesh and as a decomposed group of convex shapes.
JavaScript
. I pretty much know every aspect of it, it being a not-so-hard-to-learn language with not-so-many functions. Anything from cool and fast animations, to DOM element manipulating, working with texts, etc. I've even wanted to try to make a simple 3D game using the
Canvas
Element, some pseudo-OpenGL-like JavaScript framework for Canvas, and a rewritten simple version of Bullet Dynamics. Familiarized with
Ext JS
, working with jQuery. Actually I hate
jQuery
because a lot of elements work slow, slower than mine, but it very often saves me a lot of time so I have to thank the authors and contributors.
C#
. Ahhh, my first useful programming language I've learned. Not worked in it recently, but I did a pretty good job at making a desktop application that made a simple morphological search in a database, displayed results, etc. I've also made an updater for it (to pump new data into the DB). But that was long ago and I look back at that program as I look back at kindergarten. Now I can do much better things.
Other products and technologies I've worked with:
Crystal Xcelsius, nVidia PhysX, TinyMCE, COM+, HTML/CSS
(of course, how could have I forgotten about that?)

Built desktop applications for managing sales, finance, salaries, etc.
Build a document management system, the purpose of which was to manage a database of legislation in Moldova, to provide quick morphological search by keywords present in the title and the content of the document. Search results highlight searched words and expressions. Update was essential, as the program had to run offline, and only updates to be made online.

IT Engineer-Coordinator / Team Lead
I manage the stuff going on behind a call center. That's automatic dialing of large lists of customers, to deliver messages, also management of incoming calls, answered by operators. I didn't write the software, but I build reports, I transfer data and take care that the lists are correct and the not-so-good applications don't give me problems, and other stuff that I haven't had the opportunity to implement, yet.

Economics and informatics. It's a cool way of saying: whatever you do there (supermarket, car shop, restaurant, deliveries, logistics, business intelligence, etc.), I can probably make it pay more while you spend less, through implementing intelligent solutions based on IT. That's the most advanced stuff I've done, and it doesn't mean I can't make simpler everyday jobs like cooking a website, engineering a new framework, transferring all desktop based reports to a high security web application, optimizing existing systems (not if coded totally improperly, in which case I'd rather rewrite everything than spending countless nights trying to figure out what the hell does string s1, s2, s3, etc. stand for).
This is due to the fact that studies have been focusing on Math mainly (statistics, modeling, forecasting, decision making, route planning, flow management, etc), but I've also had one of the greatest experts in databases in the country, who's been working with databases ever since the USSR, in one of its top secret military equipment factories. He passed an extensive level of understanding of databases and how they work. Also he taught me the basics of speech recognition problem and solutions.
