Emulating the illustration styles for everything from cartoons to technical illustrations and following branding guidelines & templates in a team of 5-10 designers was essential. My strengths were in organizing projects and creating templates, and processes to simplify them. One assignment included style-checking 100+ html web pages against unfamiliar CSS sheets for a user interface design. The style sheets were becoming unwieldy -- too many programmers and duplication. I initiated a VISUAL SAMPLE guide of all the styles and revamped the CSS using abbreviated styles eliminating unneeded code and allowing the interface to load and run faster.A side benefit of supporting Product Information was that I learned a whole lot about MSWord Templates, several CMS applications, as well as several CAD & 3D applications (AutoCad, 3D Max, ProE). We also had a couple years where we produced video multimedia pieces which added Adobe Premiere, Sony Soundforge, and the basics of videography to my repertoire.
Designed the layout in InDesign and Illustrator. Image library & copy were made available. Needed the ad in a hurry for a MN State Fair
PROBLEM: Simplify documentation/instructions to make the Unisys ES7000 Server customer installable. These servers entailed a wide variety of components and configurations. Current manuals were thick, cumbersome, and awkward to use and required a Unisys Customer Engineer to understand and do the installation.
SOLUTION: They teamed me with a technical writer (Lloyd Draper) who provided copy and digital photos. I did the illustrations and layout condensing it a simple trifold format of several pages. Saved installers & customers time and money and worked well enough that we did it for several other similar systems.2003-4 MERIT AWARD: The Intermountain Chapter of The Society for Technical Communication Merit Awd – 2003-4 Publications Competition
