Eren is a very good programmer and when he works, he writes good code. However, he is completely unreliable. For the project I had him work on, I was under a lot of pressure to deliver, and brought Eren in to help. Then, we were nearing the deadline, so I asked him to work more hours, and he agreed. I said I would pay him a bonus if he met our deadline. The next day, he asked to get the bonus early since he needed to buy a new computer for his partner Oktay, who I also hired. He admitted this was unprofessional, but he needed to do it. I agreed and trusted that he would deliver. Unfortunately, he did not change his ways and only worked a few erratic hours per day. He was unresponsive via email and blocked me from his IM client. I really needed the work done, so I limped along dealing with him until I was able to come up with an alternative, and then told him not to work anymore and that I wanted my bonus money back. He did stop working, and I left the job open thinking that maybe things would get better and he could work again. After all, he is a good programmer. 2 months have gone by, and I recently contacted him about this, and got the same song and dance about how he's busy with other projects, moving, vacation, etc etc, and he might have a few hours for us, but he wants a 50% raise. I wish I could somehow get my bonus money back - that's the last time I wire money directly to a provider and not through odesk to avoid the delay in payment. If you want to hire Eren, I would recommend using him for tasks which are not deadline-driven, otherwise you'll be sitting around biting your nails hoping he actually does your work, like I did.
