Skill Experience Level Last Used Description
Writer 15 yrs 3.0 2008 I worked for 15 years in local community newspapers and a few magazine assignments as a freelancer, each of three local weekly newspapers in Austin, Texas, such as La Prensa de Austin, The West Austin News, and NOKOA The Observer, before I resigned from La Prensa last month.

Currently, I am searching for possible news assignments as a freelance reporter on the local level or on the Internet, as more web sites searching to hire long-term freelance writing for many more news and sports assignments, which allows me and other freelancers to network and continue working as journalists in the global village.

Education
From To School Degree Area of Study Description
06/1988 05/1991 The University of Texas Bachelors Journalism: News and Public Affairs I returned to the University after not having much success finding a career in broadcasting. My original plan was to raise up my GPA to qualify for graduate school, but it was one radio-television-film professor who was quite impressed with my writing skills in his advanced screenplay class that convinced me to begin studying for a degree in journalism. Limitations to maintain my work with home and part-time jobs didn't at first give me time to get started with the Daily Texan, but after I graduated in 1991, I began working closer to the Hispanic community and my own family history a year later with La Prensa, where I worked for more than five years for a bilingual newspaper that included a lot of sports coverage and local politics.
01/1983 05/1987 The University of Texas Bachelors Radio-Television-Film I began my career as a college student officially on Jan. 15, 1983, on the provisional admission status, in order to prove my self worthy of attending the University as a full-fledged student. That first semester allowed me to continue and declare a major by the end of the 1983 fall semester, but in 1985, I flunked two courses among my general academic requirements, but I also refused to give up. Most of my upper-division courses focused not on production, but on writing for broadcast and film, analysis and criticism of electronic media, film history, storytelling, and minorities and mass media. The consent process also took away my hope of producing TV shows.
