I've been working as a Graphic and Web Designer for about 10 years. The level of my expertise with the applications of Adobe, Microsoft and others grows daily. Although I do not consider myself to be a "coder" my long use of HTML (and other variations) is useful to me - when I work in Dreamweaver I am always able to fill in and make direct corrections where the program falls apart.
My ability to pull a team together and get any job done is inherent in my ability to write, produce and direct media projects.
My objective then is to make full use of any combination of my technical and creative skill sets.

The url below is that of my Cinema page on my personal/business website. To be clear - I do accept work directly through that site - however, if you get there through the provided link please do not make any offer or request quotes outside of oDesk. I believe that personal integrity is more important than making money.
All of the work to be found there reflects my work over the last seven years. To be fair, it should be said that I've been in school during those years earning my BS and Masters back to back, so some the work does reflect assignments.

where I (along with a team of editors and other designers) held responsibility for keeping the site up to date and in good working order.
• Daily use of RedDot CMS - posting new materials to the Hachette Book Group site
• Ongoing responsibility for eNewsLetter creation and preparation for distribution
• Researched and enabled team to use crucial ISBN search capability in RedDot CMS
This was my second contract position with Hachette. One can only assume that they were dazzled by my work the first time around:-)

Hachette Book Group
Project Manager / Independent Contributor
This company was faced with a problem: hundreds of books were stored, in digital form, on a server that was fast becoming obsolete (when I was brought in they believed it would only work on the old Mac 9 operating system). I came in, made an evaluation of the issue and discovered a way to interface that server using Mac Leopard - saving them time and worry. I accelerated the process of transfer. When the contract ended the task was 100% complete which was far beyond their initial expectations.
• Transfer of Quark and InDesign materials from Artesia Data Asset Management (vault)
• Detailed inspection of all assets before converting all design docs to PDF
• Creation of strategic work-flow for myself and associate - accelerating process of transfer

is a part the larger educational company. I was hired as a long term (three year) contract employee and they chose to place me in a full time position for the duration of the task I was hired to do: I was to oversee the recreation and updating of lectures by visiting doctors. The earlier versions were on video tape. Hired in a team and directed the production of hundreds of hours of material in digital form pre-preped for fully assessable DVD review.
• Producer, director, editor – 200+ medical video lectures.
• Multi-staff supervision of dead-line driven, high quality, video productions.
• Renegotiated vendor contracts saving the company thousands of dollars

Random House Publishing
Graphic Designer / Independent Contributor
This was my first job in publishing. My opportunity there came when, without experience of any kind, I accepted a temporary position through an employment agency as a Scanner Operator. Within three days I was asked to accept a permanent position with the company, and three months later i was promoted to the Graphic Designer's position. I was trained from the ground up by Cathy Goldsmith who at that time was head of the Children's Book Division. I was terrified of this 4 foot 11 inch dynamo, and she proceeded to teach me how to choose fonts, colors, and space. And to pay attention to detail. My new world and "permanent" position ended in January of 2002 with a company-wide layoff of more than 500 people. In light of my eye opening experience as a professional Designer, my decision to return to school was set in motion.
Other Experience
Theatrical
I have written, produced, and directed for both the stage and screen for perhaps 20 years. My most recent project is the creation of a web series titled Red Head Talking - The first three episodes will appear on youtube, blip, brightcove and others at the end of this year. Also, working with two other writers I'm completing the third and final draft of a feature length film that I will be directing in the Spring of 2010.

Without pause I continued in my studies and will graduate with a Master of Media Arts in January of 2010. My current GPA is 3.95. Media continues to be my focus and I continue to expand my areas of interest on a daily basis. I am currently taking two last classes: Webisodes -a production class in which we write, produce and develop material specifically for episodic presentation ion the web. And The Miniature and the Mobile where we investigate the impact of the digitization of culture worldwide.

My focus of study through out my university experience has been in media of all kinds, from film, video and audio to the written word. Although I was only an average high school student I was an Honors student during all four of my Bachelor years, and made the national Honor's Society as well. My final GPA was 3.85... Yes, there was that "D" in Italian. Ah well - lesson learned.

What I have posted here is a link to my personal/business website. Much of what you want know about my skill sets and creative energy is available for viewing there.
Admittedly, given that the web is the way it is, one can always figure out how find me directly, however I am requesting that you do not do so - for if you do - I will not be able to work with you on projects now or in the future. My site is available only so that you may see the quality of my work and is not intended in any way to solicit business through the link here on oDesk. Personal integrity is very important to me. My policy in this: don't ask so that I don't have to say - No.
