[UPDATE] I'm currently available for 10-15 hours a week. I'd love to build your project using Agile methodology, splitted in small chunks and asking you to review and accept each one. Please read more about the process here: http://wojciech.oxos.pl/post/308427906/agile-process

If your project can be done at slower but safely (due to frequent reviews) - then I'm willing to lower my hourly rate significantly.
[UPDATE] I've been featured in oDesk's Provider Spotlight: http://bit.ly/odesk_provider_spotlight
I build web applications using Ruby on Rails
I build
custom web applications, covering
all aspects of the process - from
specs and
design to ongoing
monitoring and
maintenance. Everybody likes to build new applications, but I'm also good at picking up where others left off - I dive into other peoples code, get the big picture, learn all tricks and plugins used and instead of starting a big rewrite I build on what already exists. I also
like (sic!)
debugging other coders' code... at least once in a while.
I require minimal supervision
You need
an extra brain, not just a programmer to babysit. I try to
keep an eye on all things you could have missed - that why we all want co-workers.
We'll
work smoothly with daily contact - or even less frequent, if you give me more responsibility to make decisions. If I'm left with no instructions, I spend the time on
adding value - not just making the code more cool and trendy.
If faced with a problem I'll do a quick
research, present you with options and
suggest an optimal solution, so that this doesn't take too much update-feedback cycles (and your precious time). Of course if you like we could
chat more often - I'd love to keep my spoken English in good shape.
Rich background
Part of my strength lays in broad experience. In previous life I was a
web designer and DTP operator (InDesign), became a PHP and
Drupal CMS veteran. I've been doing end-to-end web projects (i.e. from research,
specs,
graphic design to
ongoing enhancements and
VPS maintenance) so I'm capable of working on each part of web application. I'm also a long-time
Linux user, doing some
server administration for Rails projects.
Communication skills
I'm a
good communicator so daily contact should work fine, be it email exchange or updates in task tracker. I'm also good at
organizing and prioritizing my work, so we can work smoothly even if you're tight on time for communication. I'll get the overall project's vision,
suggest tasks to do and ask confirmation, fix obvious bugs I come across, suggest improvements and
keep our task list up-to-date. Often I've found myself fixing typos in site content.
I've
worked with U.S. based clients for 2 years now. I've worked for other programmers, web designers and marketing specialists - without
any language barriers.
Stable working environment
I managed to stabilize most aspects of my work:
- I'm renting a small office/workshop to isolate from any interference while I'm working
- 8 hours working days - when I'm working for you I'm well-rested and focused
- good Internet connection, genuine software
- a continuous backup server - taking a good care of your property
I'm sharing an office space with a
co-worker, a
junior Rails dev. We're working on all most projects together, so that he's able to handle problems when I'm having vacation etc.
Development approach
For all code I write, I also create
automated tests to ensure quality. I'm moving towards
Behavior Driven Development. I try to keep up-to-date with all
good trends in Rails and web-development world - I'll write something more about my approach to development in
my developer profile at Working With Rails.
What's next? After you check out my feedback and portfolio section, I'm eager to answer all your questions in an interview. Please create an oDesk opening providing and
invite me for an interview.
I'm looking forward to talk about your project!
Regards,
Wojciech
