The certifying arm of the National Athletic Trainers Association, this national credential is obtained through academic (Bachelor's Degree minimum) and standardized testing means. Athletic Training is an allied health profession within the sports medicine, rehabilitation, healthcare, and fitness arenas.
The certifying arm of the National Strength and Conditioning Association, this national credential is obtained through a standardized test in the areas of olympic and power lifting techniques, nutrition, and aerobic/anaerobic fitness.
I have functioned in various roles at NovaCare in the clinical, operational, and administrative areas. Starting as an athletic trainer in a local college and in the physical and occupational therapy (industrial medicine) clinics; duties have included patient care in orthopedic rehabilitation and sports injury management. More recently, business development and marketing responsibilities were added which included interaction with physician and community groups in order to generate clinic referrals. Production of collateral marketing materials and public speaking engagements were also part of business develpment.
As part of a medically based health and fitness center, managed the orthopedic rehabilitation department at LifeStyle and constructed the continuing education schedule for the personal trainers and athletic trainers within the company. Duties included: personal training, orthopedic rehabilitation, curriculum development for staff continuing education, insurance company and physician communicaton, and staff development.
Hearts in Mexico - March 2003 - November 2005: Board of Directors, Treasurer – managed finances for Christian Missions organization. Created and maintained financial records system tracking incoming and outgoing funds. Functioned in the organization’s initial growth and development.
Minnesota Board of Medical Practice - January 2003 - present: Chair of Athletic Training Advisory Council serving the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice, screening applicants for state registration, consulting on discipline issues, and representing athletic trainers at the state regulatory level.
Minnesota Athletic Trainers’ Association - October 1993: office holder and committee member in various positions for over 10 years in state professional organization for Athletic Trainers. Positions have included Executive Committee (Secretary/Newsletter Editor), Hall of Fame and Awards Committee (Chair), Public Relations Committee, Reimbursement Committee.
Specific emphasis in Athletic Injury Management with an M.S. focus which included Master's Thesis as part of matriculation. Also had an on-campus Graduate Fellowship within the undergraduate Athletic Training program including student mentoring, teaching undergraduate courses, and managing aspects of the student athletic trainer program.
Research article published in the American Journal of Sports Medicine entitled "Reliability of an Isokinetic Dorsiflexion and Plantarflexion Apparatus". The data from this paper was taken from my Master's Thesis at Springfield College entitled "The Effect of Adhesive Ankle Strapping Upon Isokinetic Strength".
