Hugo David Buriel - Web Design/Programmer (PHP, MySQL, XHTML,CSS,AJAX,eComm,CMS,SocialNet) - Freelance Programmer / Developer, United States

Welcome! Thank you for stopping by and checking out my profile. I am currently working as a freelancer full-time. I specialize in Programming but can also do Redesign, Illustration, and Logo work. I am highly skilled in CSS, XHTML, XML, and rather savvy in PHP.  I also work with DHTML and Javascript but they are not my forte.  I like to implement AJAX when appropriate for faster website response.  For backend administration, MySQL is the choice for database.  I can take pretty much any...

AJAX 2 yrs 2.0 2008 http://www.usgbc-sd.org; http://www.deannjordan.com; http://www.cwea.org/sd; http://www.stormewaterreporter.com; http://www.thebirminghammagician.com; http://www.makoto-global.com (individual apps)
Implemented this for custom CMS.
Content Management Systems (CMS) 5 yrs 4.0 2008 I work with several different Content Management Systems (CMS) and also custom build my own depending on client needs.  I prefer to use open source products but can also recommend a few commercial options as well.  Just depends on what the client's needs are, how many people will need to get their nose in the website, and whether the client has a preference for a particular product.  I can set up, modify, tweak, customize, the following systems:
Joomla 1.XXX, Joomla 1.5+, Drupal, SkyBlueCanvas, SNews, Pheap, and other smaller systems.
If your looking to install such a system and want to ask a few questions I'd be happy to answer your questions or give you a recommendation based on what you want to do with your website... at no charge.  Just send me an email or IM.
Copy Editing & Writing 10 yrs 5.0 2008 Most clients have their own copy but there are a few that need me to get into their business and understand what they do in order to help add good content to their sites.  I can also do copy editing when clients request it for site maintenance.  I have two copy editors that do nice poetic verbage...and one of them is actually a published author!
CSS 5 yrs 4.0 2008 http://www.usgbc-sd.org; http://www.deannjordan.com; http://www.cwea.org/sd; http://www.stormewaterreporter.com; http://www.thebirminghammagician.com; http://www.makoto-global.com (individual apps)
I like to combine CSS with PHP for dynamic CSS applications.  All CSS is Valid and used to construct table-less layouts that are fixed, fluid, and / or elastic.  Website / Content Management System (CMS) styling & presentation is always done via CSS.  When appropriate, hacks are implemented for legacy browsers (e.g. IE5,IE6).  Lots of neat effects can be done with CSS!
Flash 1 yrs 2.0 2008 Let's face it, Flash is everywhere.  If you need some Flash work done for your site or perhaps you want to modify an existing .FLA file, I can help.  I'll be honest, I've only been using the program for the past year so I am a bit limited in scope but  can help take care of most of the things my clients need.  I would also like to mention that one of the issues with Flash is that it doesn't play nice with XHTML standards-compliant code.  However, there are ways of making it submit and I can get Flash to validate with your XHTML-strict code.
Flex 1 yrs 1.0 2008 Beginning to use Flex for offline applications that tie in with client CMS.
Graphics & Illustration, Photo/Image Touchups 8 yrs 3.0 2008 http://www.usgbc-sd.org; http://www.deannjordan.com; http://www.cwea.org/sd; http://www.stormewaterreporter.com; http://www.thebirminghammagician.com; http://www.makoto-global.com (individual apps)
I enjoy creating graphics for clients or taking their existing material and giving them insight on what needs 'mending.'  I am very good at taking images or photos and touching them up.  Sort of like virtual plastic surgery.  I use GIMP, Inkscape, Photoshop, Photodraw, ChemDraw, and a few other esoteric programs that get the job done.  Liquid rescaling has fast become a friend of mine!  I have a creative director that rocks the virtual pen with lots of grunge and awesome effects!  We alo collaborate with a professional Illustrator that animates for Amer@@@@ Da@@@.
JavaScript 3 yrs 3.0 2008 http://www.usgbc-sd.org; http://www.deannjordan.com; http://www.cwea.org/sd; http://www.stormewaterreporter.com; http://www.thebirminghammagician.com; http://www.makoto-global.com (individual apps)
Used on sites for Calendar functionality, RSS Feeds / Tickers, Rotating Image Arrays, Content Management Systems (CMS), Navigation (minimally), and for fun and dynamic effects.  Not my forte however but can hack it.
MySQL 2 yrs 2.0 2008 http://www.usgbc-sd.org; http://www.deannjordan.com; http://www.cwea.org/sd; http://www.stormewaterreporter.com; http://www.thebirminghammagician.com; http://www.makoto-global.com (individual apps)
Most of my sites are database-driven. Flat-file systems can also be implemented when requested.  Mostly used for website content, calendar functions, custom Content Management Solution (CMS), admin/login & memebership systems, Website templating systems, data upload, data retrieval, information storage.
NDAs & Copyrighted Material 1 yrs 4.0 2008 Often times, clients have material or applications that they would like to keep "under wraps" and "hush-hush."  I have no problem working under an NDA if that would ease your mind.  However, be prepared to discuss this matter at length to ensure we both understand our positon and come to a suitable agreement.
PHP 2 yrs 3.0 2008 http://www.starpreps.com;www.usgbc-sd.org; http://www.deannjordan.com; http://www.cwea.org/sd; http://www.stormewaterreporter.com; http://www.thebirminghammagician.com; http://www.makoto-global.com (individual apps)
Language of choice.  Although Ruby on Rails is rather fascinating.  Most clients just need a procedural approach but I can also code via OOP.  Utilized for back-end development, functionality, admin/login & membership systems, file storage & access, file uploading & downloading, PDF generation (with thumbnail views).  I like to combine PHP with CSS for dynamic presentation logic.
XHTML, HTML5 5 yrs 4.0 2008 http://www.usgbc-sd.org; http://www.deannjordan.com; http://www.cwea.org/sd; http://www.stormewaterreporter.com; http://www.thebirminghammagician.com; http://www.makoto-global.com (individual apps)
I implement valid XHTML. Although some browsers need a little bit of help via hacks (e.g. IE6).  Used for structuring websites and Content Management Systems (CMS). No tables are ever used unless you're bigger than me and can twist my arm very hard..or unless absolutely necessary.  CSS is always used for site structuring.  W3C.org validator is my friend.  :)
