From 2004 until 2008, I helped thousands of users solve a vast range of technical problems on a variety of platforms, including Mac OS, Windows and Linux. I gained CCNA and A+ certifications, and worked for a variety of clients, including home users, small businesses, large offices, schools and churches.
During this time I developed my skills in development and design, learning and successfully using a variety of languages in the process, including C, C++, PHP, XHTML, CSS, Python and Javascript. I learned a variety of application frameworks, gaining expertise in Zen Cart and Wordpress, among others.
After the recession hit, freelance tech support jobs started to dry up, so I switched my focus to design and development. I spent several months researching and compiling all the latest web development knowledge, and I built a new system for myself based on Ubuntu.
Like many other freelance developers, my core abilities lie in end-to-end management of the lifecycle of a website, from concept and creation, to eventual migration to other systems and frameworks.
Unlike other freelance designers and developers, my experience in end-user tech support makes me an absolute joy to work with - I understand the problems users face when coping with difficult new technologies, and I know the best methods, tricks and techniques to turn even the most complicated concepts into simple, step-by-step instructions.
No matter how difficult or complex your project may seem, I can help you turn it into something clear, organized - and, hopefully, beautiful.

Starting in 2006, every online store I have built has either used OsCommerce or Zen Cart, depending on the specific plugins, features, and layout desired by the end user.

PHP has been my primary server-side scripting language since I started learning web development in 2004. Every framework I have learned uses PHP, including Wordpress, Zen Cart, and DokuWiki, and I have written and modified plugins, themes, and widgets for each.
I have also used PHP as a general-purpose scripting language for web-related tasks, including craigslist posting, Ebay sniping, and screen scraping.

I learned XML before learning HTML, so it was a breeze for me to conform to XHTML's additional restrictions.
I keep up-to-date notes and reference on each language I use, including XHTML, and I use news feeds to keep up-to-date on new technologies, tags, and frameworks as they are proposed, developed, implemented, and popularized.

Carsten Unlimited / Dirty Hackers
Proprietor / Executive
Carsten Unlimited is my private IT consulting business, a sole proprietorship.
Since leaving H Power Computing, I have been providing 1099-based consulting and tech support, sometimes through independent companies hiring me as a contractor, and sometimes directly working with end users.
The recession, and its massive impact on the tech-support industry forced me to rethink my position, and relation to the economy as a whole.
I decided to spend time developing my skills in a variety of areas, not limited to development and design. I am still exploring options in a variety of fields, including real estate, project management, software development, game design, and sound engineering.

For the duration of my employment, I was responsible for system construction, testing, user instruction, user support, warranty repair, diagnosis, and research, in addition to administrative tasks such as network management, point-of-sale system support, invoicing, payments, bank deposits, and day-to-day store management operations.

Assisted with school-wide IT infrastructure and end-user support, on a variety of platforms including Windows 2000 / server, Mac OS 9 / X, and Cisco routers and switches.
Other Experience
Soldering & Circuit Design
As a hobby while in high school, I designed, etched, and assembled guitar pedals for myself and others.
Later, I used these skills to replace broken laptop power jacks, fix headphones and audio equipment, and give new life to broken electronics.
