Project OverviewThe term Intelligent Transportation System refers to efforts to add information and communications technology to transport infrastructure and vehicles in an effort to manage factors that typically at odds with each other, such as vehicles, loads, and routes to improve safety and reduce vehicle wear, transportation times and fuel consumption.
Intelligent transportation systems vary in technologies applied, from basic management systems such as car navigation, traffic signal control systems, container management systems, variable message signs or speed cameras to monitoring applications such as security CCTV systems, and then to more advanced applications which integrate live data and feedback from a number of other sources, such as parking guidance and information systems, weather information, bridge de-icing systems, and the like. Additionally, predictive techniques are being developed, to allow advanced modeling and comparison with historical baseline data. Some of the constituent technologies typically implemented in this project are described in the following sections.Project ScopeThe scope of the current project was to develop an end to end, full fledged , extensible XML based Network Management System / Intelligent Transportation System Framework for controlling various traffic devices. This Plugin Framework based system is supposed to be the most flexible, inclusive, expandable and secure system for implementing ATMS (Advanced Traffic Management Systems) available today . This complex project has 11 modules which collaboratively works in a distributed environment in a Client/Server and peer - peer networking model.Some of the Modules in the Server Side like Event Server, Log Server, Data Exchange Server, CCTV Server, Driver, Encoder , Executive Handler are Windows Services which works in the background. Some of the modules in the Client side are Web based admin pannel, Web Services, Web based CCTV Admin Plugin, Video Viewer ActiveX control , XML Serializer / Deserializer module.
