I create vivid powerful experiences through design and illustration. My experience has taught me to listen first and then go to work. All of my clients are repeat customers. I have worked for agencies and tech houses across the Dallas Metroplex for years, but find direct client freelance more satisfying. I have worked in all media and have created for small companies as well as large corporations.
More than a technician, I am an artist who gets it. In written verbage and in design, I make sure the message is clear and responsive to your needs. My goal is to present a creative, accurate portrayal of your strengths to the public at large and do it in such a way that they come back. Anyone can put a website together or draw a pretty picture, but is the message being conveyed who you really are?
These skills have taken years to develop. No technical knowledge can replace them. Good communication conveys substance and quality, richness and depth. Contact me and see the difference.
As a technician, I have excellent hand skills and do preproduction art and sketches as well as storyboards. I am an excellent color correction artist and retouch at an expert level. I write copy and design logos, websites, brochures, catalogs. I am a cartoonist, portrait painter, designer, technical illustrator.
I am looking for jobs that are heavy on concept and design. I work well with others.
I use Photoshop, Illustrator, MS Word at expert levels.

Recently completed a web design for a small multilevel marketing company in which I created both copy and illustration. Worked closely with client via telephone and email to get exact look and feel of the site down. Worked at night because client needed to sell during the day. Went the extra mile to finish project at eleventh hour of deadline when changes became necessary. Earned bonus cash and am currently doing several other jobs for the same client.

Another Konami card, (see Spacechip and Demon), done in Adobe Photoshop.
By the way, these were done in 1993, long before there were layers in Photoshop, so I guess that I really was there at the beginning of the Photoshop art revolution.
Layers, paths and other tools have added to Photoshop's arsenal, but the basic ideas behind the program are essentially the same.

Category:

Description:
This was done for a series of Helicopter ads, several of which I worked on, and actually is a composite of about five photos. The finished file is actually a single Photoshop file with layers that are just turned on and off to produce the two variations.
The original image had background buildings that were replaced and of course, the helicopter was a separate image, but the hardest part of the ad was actually getting the distressed type to look natural.
The logos and smaller illustrations that ran at the bottom of these ads were all done in Adobe Illustrator. The ads were also composited in Illustrator.
I did all the Photoshop and Illustrator art as well as the Pola-proofs which were then approved by the clients.

This was part of series of illustrations done for Konami Games. The idea was to do a series of cards that would feature a character on the front and a tip on the back. The problem was that the kids playing the games were getting all the tips faster than we could make the cards. The company I worked for became a production house for a series of football cards (Playoff) and I did do some production for them (clipping paths, etc.).

Description:
Adobe Illustrator CS3.
A Christmas card design done for Buchanan Printing. This is a unique client, one of Dallas' oldest printers, whose building has the world's largest printing press under one roof. Plus, Lynn Johnson is an absolute saint and a dear friend.
As per most of the projects I have done for them, this project took a while. Different clients approach work very differently and with some, you have to work very closely and be capable of adjusting the art accordingly. This job had a number of varnish plates, for example, that were quite complicated and required re-doing certain sections several times to accomodate the various processes which changed in the actual production phase to accomodate some new ideas the client had.
One of my favorite sayings is, "It's not the Mona Lisa. It's a COMMERCIAL job and it has to meet the client's specifications or it has to be done again."
It's as simple as getting it right for them, not having an attitude, and still making the deadline.

This is a typical job for me and is representative of the way I like to work, researching the images beforehand and adding a real artistic flair to them.
These are not traced photographs, they are more like art deco alterations of the images I find.
