Sandra had a good online presence and was always available and responsive on Skype. Unfortunately I think her technical skills were quite basic. Our requirements were not complex and were quoted by a local company to take 40 hours to complete. It took at least a week of elapsed time before we even got to the "Hello World" stage, and even then it was the trivial pieces of functionality (like the instructions screen) which Sandra focused on rather than the more complex features. I must admit that I hired based on reputation rather than earnt trust - and this is my failure. After raising the issue of poor progress I assume that a new developer was assigned as work did dramatically improve by about week 3. Enhancements and bugs were turned around very quickly. However despite this, there was one basic bug which they were not able to solve - take an Excel spreadsheet and produce a MySQL load script based on it. There appeared to be an encoding issue which Sandra was unable to overcome. In the end we had to end the project with this bug outstanding.I might use Sandra again, however I would manage the assignment very closely. Require SVN commits at end of each day, monitor day-to-day deliverables, and be very weary if progress is not clearly visible; all good advice when managing any remote worker.
